Note from Ms. Johnson
March is a very busy month with all the events coming up around the districts, but it’s also a time of year to remember the importance of reading. Reading at home with your child, or listening to your child read to you is a great way to keep them growing as readers.
So, what exactly is enough? Just 20 minutes a day is all it takes. That can be 20 minutes straight, or different reading sessions throughout the day.
Yours in education,
Christina Johnson

Capturing Kids Hearts
Affirmation Gum Balls
Our students and staff enjoy writing affirmations about their friends and teachers. The affirmation balls are then added to our Bubble Gum Machine.
CKH Corner
We have one section of our hallway where we hang Capturing Kids Hearts posters for the students to read what our focus is for the month.

Third Grade Families~
Exciting news from the art room! Students have been working really hard on a card design. They will be bringing home a large envelope that explains this cool fundraising opportunity soon! Here is the scoop: you can order your child's art on a set of 10 blank cards! The cost is $18 but $3 will come back to the art room for art supplies! Please take a minute to read the envelope and check out your child's design. If you plan to order please include the cash or check in the envelope and make sure that your child's design is placed back into the envelope. Feel free to email me with any questions: spicers@waylandunion.org
Thanks~ Mrs. Spicer

Here is the link for the PE Newsletter!
Congratulations to Natalie Wright, 3rd grade, for being the top fund raiser at Steeby Elementary, raising a total of $500!
Steeby received a few more donations after the above PE Newsletter was drafted and our new total raised is $9010.23. Thank you to everyone who donated to the Kids Heart Challenge. We simply couldn't have been so successful without all of your donations.
Reading Month
Happy Reading Month! Our theme this year is Legos!
The kick off of reading month starts with Literacy Night at Steeby from 6-7 p.m. It is always a fun event. Make sure to look at the Steeby reading month calendar. There are lots of fun dress up days and activities planned for reading month. Author and illustrator Aaron Zenz will be visiting Steeby on Friday, March 15th. He is the author and illustrator of many books for children. He is best known for the book Hiccupotamus. Check out all the other amazing books on his website: https://www.aaronzenz.com/. Students have been reading his books and are excited for his visit.
Happy Reading!

Staff Shout Outs
Our Amazing Steeby Staff
SHOUT OUT to Kelly Fortier. Mrs. Fortier continues to inspire her students everyday to do their very best. Last week, a student from her W.I.N. group returned to his class and announced to his teacher that his "Heart was Happy". His heart was happy because Mrs. Fortier told him that he was doing a great job and she was proud of him.
SHOUT OUT to Karle Timmer for creating the Affirmation Bubble Gum Machine. It looks great in the front hallway. Thank you Mrs. Timmer for your wonderful idea and creation.
SHOUT OUT to Marissa Kupres! Mrs. Kupres brainstormed affirmation words with her second graders. Each student was given a friend to write about. Those gum balls look great. This is a great way to teach our students how to make affirmations to each other. Great job Mrs. Kupres!
SHOUT OUT to Mrs. Jurkowski, Mrs. Tiers, and Mrs. Nykerk. These three amazing teachers took time after school to create the most amazing sensory walk on the floors of Steeby. It looks great and the students love it!
