With incredible energy and personalities to match, the dancers of Illstyle & Peace demonstrate that by perseverance and focus, you can reach your highest goals. Tracing hip hop dance styles from the late 70’s through today, this acclaimed ensemble teaches positive messages, including “Think It—Do It—Become It.” Become Your Dreams celebrates the art and movement of hip hop and includes a funky blend of locking, breaking, popping, tap and house dancing, vocal percussions, D.J.ing, and modern and traditional dance forms. An emphasis is placed on the similarity of some hip hop moves to those found in ballet, modern and traditional dance forms. LIGHT IT UP BLUE FOR AUTISM
Every April World Autism Month is celebrated. It began with the United Nations-sanctioned World Autism Awareness Day on April 2. This year marks the 17th annual World Autism Awareness Day. As an ohana, we have many members who are autistic. We like to come together to celebrate them this month. It would be nice to light a blue light outside your house. On April 2nd and April 30th we will have Blue Day where we will all join together to wear blue to celebrate our ohana members with autism, as well as those throughout the world.
JARRET LERNER VISIT
Everyone really enjoyed Jarret Lerner's visit. Many thanks go out to Julie McGowan, Lauren Chandonnet, and Heather Fisher for organizing the event. Each presentation that he gave was geared to the age group. He taught the children drawing techniques and ways to use those tecniques to write and edit a story. Ten children won a contest for writing and/or illustrating a cartoon
and the prize was having lunch with him.
FRIDAY SCIENTISTS
This week in Friday Scientist, a girl in Mrs. Seagrave's room made raisins swim/dance. She poured soda water in a jar and then put in some raisins. At first the raisins sank to the bottom of the glass because they are more dense than the soda. But the carbonated soda releases carbon dioxide bubbles and these bubblesattach to the raisins and act like tiny flotation devices that lift the raisin to the surface of the water (bouyancy). When the bubbles pop, the raisins fall back to the bottom of the jar.
In Mrs. Regh's class, a boy made a "xylophone." He filled jars of water and colored the water. Each jar had a different amount in it. When he hit the jars with a plastic knife, each jar made a different tone on the musical scale.
RECYCLING INK CARTRIDGES
The Kindergarten and 1st grade Girl Scouts are doing a recycling project and want to recycle your empty printer ink cartridges. A collection box will be located inside Mulready Elementary School from December to March. Their goal is to keep 200 cartridges from decaying and leaking toxins in landfills, thank you for helping them with their goal.
ABSENTEE LINE/TARDIES
Just a reminder - please be sure to call your child out when they will not be in school. (978) 567-6170. You can leave a message on the absentee line. Also, if your child enters the building late, after 8:35 am, he/she should have a parent with them to sign them in. Thank you!
LABEL LUNCH BOXES AND CLOTHING
Please label your child's belongings. That way we can be sure that the items get back to their owners.
Also, if your child is missing clothing or a backpack or lunchbox, feel free to stop by and check out our tables.
