- The integumentary system protects the body's internal living tissue and organs.
- It protects us from dehydration
- Protects everyone from getting sunburns in minutes
- Stores water, fat and vitamin D
- Protects the body from abrupt changes in temperature
Hair
Shades the scalp from sunlight.
Skin
Protects the body from burning up in a couple of minutes
Nails
Guards the tips of the fingers and toes.
Ailments
- One disease is dermatitis, also know as eczema, has symptoms that include yellow, greasy scales on the scalp that create a crusted rash. Atopic dirmititis is a red rash that itches and developed into a crusted rash. One treatment for eczema is ultraviolet therapy and to just not itch it even with rough clothing.
- Warts are rough bumps that are created by a viral infection. The most common place for a wart to occur is on the hands and feet. Occasionally tiny black dots will appear in warts, those are blocked blood vessels. Warts are usually removed by freezing it, liquid irritation and lasers.
- Acne is a disorder caused by bacteria or dirt getting into the oil glands. Acne is a red bump or a pimple on your back, face and chest. For acne, usually a doctor doesn't have to see it, treatments include vitamin A products, benzoyl products and antibiotics.
How it works with the Nervous System
The integumentary system works very closely with the nervous system, in fact the integumentary system works with nervous to sense pain and touch.
The epidermis layer of the skin is the top layer of the skin which protects the dermis layer.
The dermis layer is the inner layer of the skin that consists of dense irregular connective tissue. It is lighter that the epidermis layer. The hair protects the scalp from sunlight, and the nails protects the tips of your fingers and toes from sunlight and getting hurt very easily
