HORNUNG’S GOT TALENT!
The Hornung PTO will be hosting a Talent Show at the Brighton Center for the Performing Arts on May 8, 2024 at 6:30 PM.
When: May 8, 2024 at 6:30 PM
Additionally, students MUST attend the after-school preview/approval sessions located at Hornung Elementary School in the music room, where the committee will be able to listen to the music and preview the act ahead of time. Committee must give final approval before the show. These sessions will be Wednesday April 17 OR Thursday April 25, and you may choose which date works for your child. Parents must accompany their children to these preview sessions. We will have sign ups for these dates after your child has been approved to be in the show.
Where: Brighton Center for the Performing Arts 7878 Brighton Rd (Brighton High School campus)
What: It’s time to celebrate our student’s talents in front of an audience! We want to see our students shine on stage!
Here are some ideas your students could do for their acts:
Dance routine
Tumbling/gymnastics
Singing (with or without music)
Comedy (telling appropriate jokes)
Magic trick
Acting (well thought out skits with memorized lines please)
Cheerleading/Pom Routine
Yo-Yo tricks
Jump rope routine
Hula Hoop
Athletic trick
Musical instrument
(If you have a different idea, that’s great! We’d love to hear about it)!
** Acts can be no longer than 2 minutes 30 seconds in length. **
How: Take some time to make a plan. We would encourage groups of friends to perform together, so that we can showcase as many Hornung students as possible. When your child/group is ready, we will need a parent/guardian fill out the Google form, which is available online. You will find the link to the form in the Stinging News each week, and on the PTO Facebook page and website. We can only take a limited number of spots on a first come first serve basis, so we will contact you directly as a confirmation that your child’s act will be the show. We may not be able to accept all acts, as we have to limit the show time. We will send out an announcement when the show is full. PLEASE do not fill out the form unless you know for certain your child can perform on May 8th and will take the show and preparation for the show seriously, including attending one of the mandatory preview/approval sessions after school (see above for those dates).
We ask that ONE registration be completed for each group or act performing.
We will accept registrations until all spaces are full OR until April 5th, whichever happens first.
The adult who submits the google form registration will receive communication from us via email when the talent show act is approved.
Once you receive confirmation from our committee, PLEASE SEND THE FOLLOWING to hornungpto@gmail.com by April 15, 2024 or as soon as possible!
Digital music file if needed for the act (the entire song must be cut/edited to your needs, not to exceed 2 min 30 seconds in length. We cannot edit or cut music for anyone.)
Copy of any song lyrics (feel free to send lyrics from a website)
Text of any jokes being performed
Text of any skits being performed
Acts must be reviewed by our committee on either April 17, 2024 OR April 25, 2024 in person. You will receive a sign- up form to select a date of your choice.
Tickets are $5 per person pre sale, and $7 per person at the door.
Tickets go on sale April 1st. PTO Scholarships are available for the cost of this event. Please contact Mr. Yates for more information.
Microphones will be provided on the evening of the show. Any other necessary props must be provided by families and brought to the BCPA the night of the event.
We ask that all performers arrive by 5:45 PM on the evening of the show (May 8), so they can line up and get ready to perform! 😊
Remember, this event is a celebration of our student’s wonderful talents! It is not a competition. We can’t wait to see our amazingly talented students perform!

Medication Including Over the Counter
A quick reminder about the board policy regarding medication: All medication including over-the-counter medication (i.e. Tylenol, Motrin, TUMS, cough drops, etc.) must have a MEDICAL AUTHORIZATION FORM. This form requires both the parent's and the medical provider's signature. Without both signatures, we cannot give medication to your student. Also, the school cannot provide this medication. You must supply this medication for your student. The clinic does not have extra. This comes from board policy found here: https://meetings.boardbook.org/Public/Organization/2615
If your child is sick...
Students are not allowed to return to school if:
They have a fever.
They must be fever free for 24 hours WITHOUT the aid or use of medication.
They must be vomit or diarrhea free for 24 hours.
Please do not send medication in with your student.
Staff is not allowed to dispense any medication without a signed Medical Authorization Form signed by a physician.

BAS Mental Health and Wellness
As a district we are increasing our efforts to support the Mental Health and Wellness of our students, families and the community by focusing on Relationships, Student Wellness, and Increasing a Mindset for Learning and Growth. Each week we will share a Tip/Resource.
Additional resources and information can be found on our BAS Wellness & Mental Health website or download the new App by typing in Brighton Area Schools on the itunes store or google play. This app will allow students, parents, staff and community members access to resources and support in the areas of Mental Health & Wellness. In addition, you can receive notifications on what is happening throughout BAS and be updated on future events and information.
Attention Livingston County Parents!
In an effort to proactively support students' overall well-being, we're partnering with ParentGuidance.org to provide a monthly virtual Mental Health Series developed by licensed therapists.
This series will be virtual, interactive, and is designed to help parents and caregivers support students. Starting in November, you can join these monthly sessions both on-site at your district or online for remote viewing. Attendance and interactions are kept completely anonymous from other viewers.
Friendly Reminder - Therapy Dog
We wanted to share a friendly reminder to our families about pets on school grounds. Because our school has a therapy dog, we ask that non-service animals be kept at home. This is for the safety of our therapy dog, Suzie. When Suzie is at school she is trained to do a job. When other dogs are on the property during school hours it is distracting for her and/or could put her in potential danger.
Thank you for understanding.
Important Reminder!
Reporting Your Student's Absence in Parent Connect
There is a helpful feature in Parent Connect that allows you to enter your student’s absence. Simply log into parent connect and click on the link Report Absence. The Report Absence link will open a screen for you to complete. If you have more than one student check the name of the student for whom an absence is being submitted. Add the applicable dates. If you check the All Day flag attendance will be submitted for the am and pm periods. If you do not check the All Day flag times must be entered and attendance will be submitted for whichever periods meet during the time range (based on period schedule). If you use Parent Connect to report your child's absence you do not need to call the attendance line.
