Information
The Montgomery Bus Boycott
The Montgomery Bus Boycott was one of the major events in the Civil Rights Movement. On December 1, 1955 a lady named Rosa Parks was going home from work on a bus in Montgomery, Alabama. She was sitting in the closest seat for the black people. But eventually the bus was starting to fill up. Then the bus driver told Rosa to give up her seat to a white person. She refused to give up her seat to a white person. She was tired of being treated like she was a second class person. Then she was arrested and given a $10 fine which equals $88.58. Other people have been arrested because of this, but it was Rosa’s that sparked a protest against segregation. Civil Rights leaders and ministers got together to create a day to boycott the buses. That day was December 5th. One major leader was Martin Luther King Jr. They planned the meeting at Martin Luther King Jr’s church.

There was a white person that needed a seat so he asked Rosa Parks to get out of her seat. White people back then were allowed to make black people give up there seat and that is what this person did to Rosa Parks. But Rosa Parks refused, and refused, and refused to give up her seat. So eventually the bus driver had to call the cops to come and get Rosa Parks off the bus.
