strength in the face of pain or grief.
As we gather the courage to once again fight off this current pandemic, we are reminded of those who model this every day in our community. On behalf of the staff at Horizon Community Middle School, we would like to thank and recognize our community heroes who fight every day for the rights and freedoms we possess as Americans. Proudly, HCMS serves the most military families in the District at the middle level. The sacrifice and commitment shown is certainly a point of pride in the community. Thank you for modeling the resiliency and patience it takes to overcome adversity as we continue to navigate our ever changing world. Through your service you continue to teach, and we appreciate you!
Full Remote Learning - Full Steam Ahead
Thank you for supporting your children as we made a full pivot to remote learning this week. Our hope is that you have already seen some success and have found access to our virtual classrooms and teachers. Of course, we have had some hiccups in our transition, but we are pleased with our students' ability to manage change and direction. Please remember that we have synchronous, in-class learning that takes place from 9:00-12:30 Monday - Friday. In addition, every afternoon our teachers host instructional support sessions from 1:10-4:00 p.m. We are on an alternating A/B day schedule. This is very different than our hybrid in-person schedule, but our students have been preparing for this reality for a couple weeks now.
Automated attendance calls will start on Monday. You will receive a call or email if your student is marked unexcused from any of their remote learning classes.
Please click on the HCMS Remote Learning button below to visit our website with daily grade-level schedules, A/B Calendars, and Instructional Support schedules for student success. We are proud to announce that 90% of our students have signed in and are learning in these first few days. We are well on our way to our mission, Learning: Every Day for Every One!
