Peek of the Week
for Eagle Creek - Nov 19
Goal
Focus on Key Ideas and Details throughout the school.
Literature and Informational Text
Standard 1: Read closely to determine what the text says explicitly and to make logical inferences from it; cite specific textual evidence when writing or speaking to support conclusions drawn from the text.
Standard 2: Determine central ideas or themes of a text and analyze their development; summarize the key supporting details and ideas.
Standard 3: Analyze how and why individuals, events, and ideas develop and interact over the course of a text.
Resource with resources cited - looks promising, I haven't played with it a whole lot.
District and School Vision
Eagle Creek Vision: The purpose of our school is to ensure that ALL students learn at high levels in a safe and respectful environment.
Eagle Creek Do We Want to be a Professional Learning Community?
* We must prepare students for their future, not our past.
* Those who have not learned how to learn will be left behind in the American economy.
* To sustain access to the American Dream as the land of opportunity and social mobility.
* We are falling behind the rest of the world.
* Those that drop out of school are 3x more likely to be unemployed. They are more prone to ill health. They are 63x more likely to be incarcerated. AND The taxpayers will pay $292,000 for each one of them over their lifetime.
We need to assess our effectiveness on the basis of results rather than intentions. Individuals, teams, and schools see relevant data and information and use that to promote. continuous improvement
"There is nothing more important than each team member's commitment to a common purpose and set of related performance goals for which the group holds itself jointly accountable." Kazenback & Smith, 1993

Books that Represent other Cultures
Jackie has these books in her room; she received them through SEED. I have also noted on the document which ones we already have in our Learning Commons. We will continue to purchase more over the next couple of years.
Jackie did a great job adding the culture or country represented and the focus of the story. Thanks!!

Lunch Counts
All Staff - Thanks for making sure you sign up for a lunch in the morning through your class count or an email. It is helping with our counts.

Second Chance Breakfast
Second Chance Breakfast is one more way to get food to our students. It is meant for any student that missed breakfast for any reason. If students choose to go outside and play in the morning, missing breakfast in the cafeteria, and choose to eat 2nd chance breakfast, that’s OK. We need students to run around and play in the morning AND we need them to eat. Some of our tough kids choose to play in the morning and then are being refused 2nd chance breakfast because they missed their chance at breakfast in the cafeteria; therefore they will be distracted by a hungry tummy. I know we all know kids learn and pay attention more when they have eaten. Please do not make getting breakfast in a student’s stomach a power struggle. Let’s do what we know is right for kids and allow them to get food whether it is in the cafeteria or for 2nd Chance Breakfast. Please see Josie if you want to brainstorm ways to do this for your students. #kidsdeserveit. #eaglecreekrocks. #foodfuelslearning.
Reminders
- We are adding a second level 3 EBD room to our building. The posting went out of Thursday. Catie Suflita will move to the 2nd level 3 room and we will hire a new EBD level 1-2 teacher to take her spot. Ms. Suflita will be in room 108. More information to follow once staffing is in place.
- When it is your Birthday Month you will get to fill out an all about me page to be displayed in the lounge. You should receive one in your box the month of your birthday or there are some next to the phone in the lounge. Please take the time to fill it out and add it to the bulletin board so we can learn more about you!
Please forward pictures of students and staff for the TV’s in the entrances to Lois. We like to refresh pictures weekly!
BLT Notes please see your rep. or Josie with questions.
Only Mother Nature knows the true deadline for your CoLD Day tech checklist:
Done with Shoretel?
Finished with Out of Office (use when sick or on vacation)?
Then celebrate and wait for snow.
