PCMS WEEKLY UPDATE
November 16, 2018
#PCMSPROUD Moment of the Week
We kicked the week off to a fantastic start Monday as we recognized our Veterans and active Military/Reserve personnel for their service to our country during the PCMS Annual Veteran’s Day Breakfast & Assembly. This day is one of the hallmark days on our calendar and one that we, as a school community, look forward to each and every year. It’s incredibly humbling to see the kids with their parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and neighbors gathering here at school to celebrate this extraordinary day. We hope you enjoyed the performances by our students, as they did an excellent job leading the assembly, singing, and performing. We want to thank everyone who came and shared their time with our students and us on this very special day! Have a wonderful weekend!
Thanksgiving Break ~ No School Nov 21, 22, 23
Winter Weather/School Closing Planning and Notification
With the recent drop in temperatures and arrival of “white stuff,” it is time to begin planning for winter weather!
In the event of school cancellation, PCR-3 will get that information out as early as possible through automated phone calls and text messages, the District website, Facebook, Twitter, the District Hotline (816-858-2752), and local media.
Please visit the Winter Weather Information page on the Parents Tab of the district website for information regarding recess and clothing considerations (there will be no outdoor recess when the wind chill is at 20 degrees or below), cancellations, how the district will notify families, and Y-Club information.
Parents: If you haven't yet opted in to receive texts and wish do so, please text the word "YES" to 67587.
STUCO Food Drive for Treasure Chest
A reminder that our Student Council is hosting a food drive competition to benefit the PCRIII Treasure Chest. Many of you know that the Treasure Chest is a stocked resource center providing food and other basic necessities to PCR-3 students and families in need - so this is a great community cause!
Each grade level is asked to donate a specific item. (See the pics below to see how the competition is stacking up thus far;) Don't forget, the grade level that collects the most will get ice cream sandwiches at the next incentive party!
We will be accepting the following donations through Fri, Nov 21:
6th Grade - Macaroni & Cheese
7th Grade - Canned Fruits
8th Grade - Canned Vegetables
Any other items, such as personal hygiene or toilet paper are always welcome, as well.
What a great way to model our November Pirates ROCK character trait of "Citizenship" and contribute to our wonderful community! Thank you for helping us spread kindness!
Parent IgNIGHT - Safeguarding our Children
Platte County School District's Parent IgNIGHT, a series of informative parent sessions, is designed to include, inform, involve, and ignite parents.
Our first session is Safeguarding our Children Part I: Protecting our Children in the Digital World, and is coming up on Tues, Nov 27. Join us to increase your awareness of potentially dangerous apps and social media behavior, what our schools are doing to educate students about online safety, and what you as a parent can do to help keep your child safe.
During this session, parents will hear from Dr. Mike Brown, Assistant Superintendent; Dr. Jennifer Beutel, Executive Director of Pupil Services; and Russ Tuttle, of the Stop Trafficking Project. See flyer below for details.
PTO Holiday Mart
Holiday Mart is coming up Sat, Dec 1 from 8-noon at PCMS. This event will be open and FREE to the public!
Pre K - 5th Grade students are invited to Christmas shop for family/friends. Santa's helpers (middle school students) will help them secretly pick out the perfect gift!
While kids are shopping in their private area, there will be a wide variety of vendors set up in other areas for adults to do their own Christmas shopping! Some vendors/items include: homemade sewn and embroidered goods, Paparazzi Jewelry, Scentsy, handmade jewelry/leather earrings, Mary Kay Cosmetics, Young Living Essential Oils, Lularoe clothing, Matilda Jane clothing, Pirate lawn chairs, Tupperware, Color Street Nails, Damon’s Rally Cap Charity T-shirts, scrapbooks, journals, spirit wear, doll clothes, and other misc homemade crafts. There will be something for everyone!!!
When you are finished shopping, stop at our bake sale (contributions from our amazing teachers and staff at PCMS) and get your FREE picture taken with Santa! Hope to see you Sat, Dec 1!
Vendors - There are still a few booth spaces available for anything that we don’t already have on our list! Contact Jen Stehlik - jmstehlik@gmail.com ASAP if you are interested!
