November is Family Literacy Month
Three Reasons to Read With Your Elementary Scholar Every Night
Throughout the month of November we will continue to share helpful tips and tools to create a double win - by building literacy skills and family relationships. Check out these three reasons for reading with your scholar every night.
1. Time together. The number one reason for reading each night is quality time together. Period. Life gets nuts when kids go to elementary school. Between homework, lessons, classes, and meetings, it's a crazy time. But carving out that small amount of time—even if it's 10-15 minutes, which is just enough time to read one chapter of a book—is totally worth scheduling into your day. I'm betting payoffs for this small, scheduled “date” with your child will be big in the long-term.
2. Listening to fluent reading. If you choose to do the reading, which I strongly suggest you do, then this time together allows your child to listen to what fluent reading should sound like. You don't need to go crazy with voices and sounds—just read naturally and normally. The more your younger readers hear what fluent reading should sound like, the better! It reminds them how their reading should sound.
3. Talking about texts. It doesn't need to be an in-depth discussion about characters, plotline, or style, but you may be surprised at how your conversations evolve after you read together for some time. You can begin by just “thinking aloud”—every few pages, share your thoughts about the text out loud, kind of like a built-in commentary. Your child will hear how you think about and process text as you read, and soon it will become habitual for him or her to do the same. Over time, incorporate questions or thought-provoking statements and involve your child.Check out the link below for more details, online book titles, and reading guides to support literacy in your home.

Germ Defense Team
The Germ Defense Team was designed to help keep students involved and excited about staying clean and healthy. Encouraging them to ALWAYS practice good hygiene by making it “fun” to stay safe.
Every week each grade level nominates 2 students (BOY and GIRL) for the Germ Defense Team.
Grade levels will be Pre-K, Kinder, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th. These students are acknowledged on Fridays before dismissal. They will receive a nice surprise 😊 and take a photo.
On the last Friday of each month there will be a drawing for the Defense Warrior of The Month (names for drawing will consist of all nominees chosen that month). Students must be present to receive prize/reward.
Thank you for helping me keep everyone safe!!!

$Jean Fridays
This week students may bring $1 or a canned good to support our school's Thanksgiving Basket Drive. Jeans may not be torn, frayed, or holy. Students not followings this expectation will make phone calls home for a change of clothes.
Safe School Dismissal
Students will not be released to anyone from any doors during actual dismissal. If there should happen to be a change with your student's dismissal, due to emergency, our front office must be notified before 3:00p.m. Early pickups will not be honored after 3:00p.m. A notice from the appointment is also required for the student to be excused from time missed in class.
Students are dismissed beginning at 3:50p.m. Any students left after 4:10p.m. are considered late pickups. Parents or Guardians picking up after the car drive closes will need to ring the bell at the front door and follow our standard office procedures for checking out or picking up a student present valid identification.
Early Pick-ups
Please allow students to remain the full school day. If you need to pick up your child for an appointment, please call ahead of your arrival and return the note from the doctor, dentist, etc., on the next school day in order to receive credit for the day.
Additionally, students will not be released from school after 3:00 pm. Parents wanting their children will need to wait for dismissal time and follow the appropriate dismissal process.

We Need Your Help
- Parents addressing staff in a disrespectful manner (cursing, berating, threatening, etc.) will not be tolerated. This type of behavior is not condoned by any member of the Rosa Parks Community.
- Hoodies: Under no circumstances are hoodies allowed to be worn. (See the District Dress Code) This includes pullover sweatshirts and winter coats. Uniform shirts are to be visible at all times.
- Crocs: Under no circumstances are scholars allowed to wear crocs.
- Masks: All scholars, teachers, and staff are required to wear a face mask appropriately at all times.
- Cell Phones: Cell phone usage is prohibited on the campus. If a scholar needs to reach a parent, they will need to make their teacher or RPM staff member aware. Parent contact by cell phone is not allowed unless given permission. Playing games and engaging on social media is prohibited on campus.
- Restroom Behavior: Behavior in the restroom (intentionally flooding toilets, writing on the walls, scraping paint off the walls, trashing the floors, smearing nail polish, eating and placing food products in the toilet) has increasingly gotten worse, rather than better. As a result, students are not allowed in restrooms apart from their scheduled class restroom break. Emergencies will be treated on an as needed basis in the front office. This will help administration with tracing in the event another incident occurs.
Please discuss these issues with your child to ensure they are not a part of these mishaps.
Operation Safe Tiger Return - Covid19 Protocol
Circumstances related to COVID-19 may change throughout the school year, as such, so with the response of our district. We encourage you to carefully read and review the plan regularly to remain up-to-date with changes as it relates to students, staff, and community stakeholders. Within the plan, you will find the district's expectations with regards to:
- Virus Prevention Strategies
- Health Reporting Procedures for students, staff, and visitors
- Quarantine Protocol
- Instructional Pivot Process (if needed)
