Week 30 // Apr 8-12
This is the weekly first grade newsletter! It will inform you of what is happening in first grade and at Wooden during the upcoming week. Scroll all the way through each week to stay in the loop! In every newsletter, you will find "What are we learning this week?," our weekly spelling words, school & grade-level announcements, and a video describing how to help your child with his/her reading homework! Thank you for partnering with us in your child's education!
What are we learning this week?
English Language Arts and Reading
We can create a final product to demonstrate our research.
Math
We can tell time to the hour and half hour using analog and digital clocks.
Science
We can analyze and record examples of interdependence found in various situations.
Social Studies
We can identify examples of and uses for natural resources.
We can identify and describe how the uses of shelter, clothing, food, and activities are based upon geographic location.
Spelling Words
Below are the trick words, pattern words, practice sentences, and nonsense words that we will be learning in class and students should practice at home! Practice other words that follow the same patterns so students learn the pattern, not just the words!
Trick Words:
work, word, write, answer, change, sound, quite, place
Pattern Words: (multi-syllable words with a suffix)
Bedbugs, cobwebs, unzips, napkins, mistakes, flagpoles, athletes, finishing, publishing, insulting, disrupting, expected
Practice Sentences:
You can write on the napkins.
Dad insisted that I do this work.
The athletes jog on the path.
Stop disrupting the class!
Get the cupcakes on the plates.

Apr 25: Pre-K Roundup @ Live Oak Building from 1-6pm
Apr 26: Wooden Warrior Assembly @ 8 (we will tell you if your child is getting an award)
Library Days
Below is your child's library day! Please make sure your kiddo has his/her book(s) on the day listed below so they can keep getting new books! Your child can also exchange books on almost any other day. If a book is too hard, too easy, or they just want a new one, let them bring it in so they can try out a different one! Please work with us in taking care of books properly at home so that we are able to have lots of library books available!
