Bronco Bulletin
May 2024 edition
A Note to the Parents
Dear Parents & Guardians,
WOW! How is it already May? We have had such a great time building the traditions and culture here at Brosnahan Elementary this inaugural year! None of what we have accomplished would have been possible without your support. You and your broncos have made this year spectacular. It was everything I could have wished for and more. Here's to closing out the school year with pride and happiness.
Sincerely,
Dr. Silliman
Teacher Appreciation Week - May 6-10, 2024
Here at Brosnahan, we celebrate the staff during the week of May 6-10th. We absolutely love our staff and do our best to shower them with appreciation throughout the year, but this week we make it even more special. If your student has an amazing teacher or staff member that they love, we encourage you to show them how much they are appreciated. They do what they do for the love of the job, not the amount of the paycheck, so anything you can do to spoil them this week would be appreciated dearly.

Summer Internet Safety Tips
As the summer break approaches, it's essential to ensure that your child stays safe while using the internet. Here are some tips and resources to help you guide your child in practicing safe online behavior during the summer months. By following these tips, you can help your child have a safe and enjoyable online experience this summer.
- Set Clear Rules: Establish rules regarding screen time, which websites are allowed, and the importance of not sharing personal information online.
- Keep Devices in Common Areas: Encourage your child to use devices in common areas of the house where their online activity can be monitored.
- Teach Online Etiquette: Remind your child about the importance of being kind and respectful to others online and to report any cyberbullying they may encounter.
- Review Privacy Settings: Check privacy settings on apps and gamming platforms to ensure private information is not accessible to others.
- Stay Informed: Stay up to date on the apps and websites your child is using and be sure to have open conversations about online experiences.
- Monitor Online Activity: Consider using parental control software to monitor your child's internet usage and set restrictions if necessary.
- Educate About Online Scams: Teach your child to be cautious of online scams, phishing emails, and to never click on suspicious links.
Clinic Reminders
Medication Reminders
As the end of the school year approaches, we would like to remind you to pick up any medications you provided to the school clinic this year. According to CFISD Board policy FFAC (local), medications must be retrieved from the clinic by a parent/guardian or designated responsible adult. Please make arrangements to pick-up your student’s medications by 05/30/2024 no later than 12 p.m. Medications not collected by this deadline will be disposed of according to CFISD policy.
Immunization reminders
All Pre-K students are required (unless exempt) to have received their 4-year-old shots before starting kindergarten. If your Pre-K student has already received their immunizations, please send a copy with them to school so our records can be updated. Any student missing their immunizations at the start of the 24-25 school year will not be able to begin school on August 19, 2024.
All students who are currently on a catch-up schedule and need immunizations over the summer will receive a notice from the clinic in May. Please ensure your student receive these immunizations over the summer break as they will not be able to begin school on August 19, 2024, if they are missing immunizations.
Keeping Sick Children Home
A sick child who is unable to participate in school in a meaningful way should be kept home to rest and recover until symptoms resolve. Keeping a sick child home also protects other children, school staff, and visiting community members from contracting an illness that can be spread from person to person. Please be aware of the following guidelines for school attendance.
Fever: A child must remain home with fever equal to or > 100° F and may only return after he/she has been fever free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medicine such as Tylenol or Motrin.
Diarrhea/Vomiting: A child with diarrhea and/or vomiting must stay at home and may return to school only after being symptom-free for 24 hours.
Conjunctivitis (Pink Eye): Following a diagnosis of pink eye, a child may return to school 24 hours after the first dose of prescribed medication has been administered.
Rashes: Common infectious diseases with rashes are most contagious in the early stages. A child with a suspicious rash must stay at home and may return to school after a health care provider has made a diagnosis and authorizes the child's return to school in writing or symptoms have resolved completely.
Head lice (pediculosis): Students who have an active case of live lice may attend school only after treatment which eliminates all live lice. Head lice do not jump or fly and are most commonly contracted by head-to-head touch. Head lice are common in school-aged children, so parents should routinely monitor children for live lice and teach the avoidance of behaviors that spread lice.
If you take your child to a healthcare provider for an evaluation of illness or injury, please be sure to request a written letter stating when your child may return to school and any accommodations required upon his/her return.
A healthy school community requires parents and schools to partner with each other. To prevent/minimize local outbreaks of contagious disease, parents must keep children who have an illness that can be spread from person to person at home, and CFISD school nurses will exclude students with symptoms of a communicable illness from school attendance.
