BASD Elementary Libraries
March 2024
Library Research in the Spring
Although Google is a quick search, the results usually are not exactly what we are looking for and not very kid friendly to read.
Classlink
To get to BASD online resources, go through Classlink. There is a chain link at the top of the BASD webpage. To sign in, students do need to sign in with their BASD Chromebook login information. If they are not on a BASD Chromebook they will need to add @burlingtonsd.org after their username. Classlink
Resources available in Classlink!
PebbleGo and PebbleGo Next
Pebble Go is a fabulous start to any research project (k-5th grade!)
PebbleGo has a lot of social studies and science information, namely animals, planets, human body, biographies, states, and Native Americans. PebbleGo has basic information, PebbleGo Next has more detailed information.
WorldBook Encyclopedia
Fabulous articles with videos, pictures, and other media. This is also a great resource to get recommended websites for various topics. Students can listen to the article.
Encyclopedia Britannica
Another fabulous encyclopedia. Written at a student friendly level, this resource also has videos and other media. It also will read for your student.
CultureGrams
If you want to learn about other states or countries- this is a fabulous resource. Use the menus on the side to find information such as food in other countries, schools, sports, activities, etc.
TrueFlix
TrueFlix has both social studies and science information such as planets, wildlife, explorers, biographies, etc. For each topic there is a short video and an ebook to read.
BASD Libraries
If you are not sure what resources to use, there is a nice display of resources found on the BASD Library site. Look below to see the Symbaloo.
BASD Library Symbaloo
The library Symbaloo helps students find what resources are available to them for various projects:
Yellow= research databases
blue= ebooks and audiobooks
orange= web resources
purple= link to Classlink (in classlink you do not need to know passwords for most of the programs)

To learn more about our libraries, please go to our district webpage.
On this page you can learn how to search our catalogs and much more.
Because I travel between 5 schools, my schedule tends to change quite a bit. On my webpage I have schedules, favorite reads, and other library information: Mrs. Nie's webpage.
I also share fun happenings on the BASD Elementary Library Facebook page.
Battle of the Books (4/5th Grade)
Thanks to all the students that participated in Battle this year! Once again we had over 100 students sign up to compete! That is fabulous! The week of March 11-15 we will determine the top team of each school. Tuesday, March 19th, all battle students will travel to Waller school for our District Battle of the Book competition. Make sure students from Dyer, Winkler, Cooper, and Lyon return their permission forms! Parents of each top team will be invited to join in the celebration- more information will be sent home next week for those teams.
Thanks for your support!
Maker Club
This is our last month for Makers Club. I have been amazed by the creativity and joy our students exhibit will creating. Thanks for supporting our program!
