Scientist of Tectonic Plates Theory
By:Haley Hernandez
Abraham Ortelius 1570
His major contribution to geology was that he was a cartographer and geographer creator of the modern atlas. His work was important because he made and published "theatric orbis terrarium" it was the first collection of maps shaped like a book.
James Hutton 1760s
James Hutton hypothesis or theory was the theory of uniformitarism , this was the theory that geological forces at work in the present day. The evidence for his theory was that he had found fossils that had perished during the biblical days. His work was important because he figured out that things in the past are and were the same as they do now.
He is also known as the founder of modern geology.
Alfred Wegener 1912
Alfred's theeory was that at one time the continents were together and called it continental drift. When he put the continents together they fit also they found fossils that helped to explain. His work was. Important because his theory is what led us to Pangea and other scientist looking deeper into his theory. Alfred Wegener was a meteorologist (a scientist who studies weather) before he became a geologist.
Harry Hess 1960
His hypothesis was that the ocean floors were being renewed by magma flowing from the mantle up through the oceanic rifts and spreading out laterally. His evidence was that he discovered the Great Global Rift that ran along the mid-Atlantic ridge, then the Mohole project which was techniques of deep sea drilling. His discovery was important because it helped with the discovery of sea floor spreading. Also the person who expanded the theory of convention cells in the mantle was Arthur Holmes.
Dan Mckenzie late 70s
Dan Mckenzies theory was how plate tectonics worked and moved to cause earthquakes or other things. The evidence he used was that he made a model showing how it worked and to help him with it he used a lot of math evidence. His discovery was important because it showed us what the plates are, and it was the first article about it.
