Tide Pod Challenge Warning
A new viral video challenge has gained national attention via social media as teens record themselves ingesting dishwater detergent pods in what has been called the "Tide Pod Challenge." It has been brought to my attention that OQMS students have been discussing this challenge and some may have considered participating in the challenge as well.
According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, Ingesting detergent can cause severe vomiting, burns to the mouth and throat, diarrhea, difficulty breathing and even death.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the school.
The Water Project Community Outreach- Sponsored by Two Student Leaders
Hello everyone,
Our names are AnneMarie Bacon and Gracie Meloni, and we are 8th graders at Old Quarry Middle School in Lemont, IL. This is our second year hosting a variety of fundraisers for an amazing organization called The Water Project. The Water Project gives people in Sub-Saharan Africa a clean water source that was previously unavailable to them. If you go to thewaterproject.org, you can see all of their past and current projects. They post updates, pictures, and sometimes videos. We are very passionate about our fundraising, and we will be hosting a few events, including an "Escape The School" event on January 26. The Water Project is important to us because we see it as a way to really show how we take so much in life for granted, such as clean water and sanitation. 2.3 billion people don't have access to those basic needs, and that is a number we are determined to lower. Join us in our efforts to help give new hope, better futures, and better lives to those who will be affected by our Water Project. Thank you, and if you have any questions, you can contact us at oqmswaterproject@gmail.com.

Board Game Club
In the board game club, we will be learning a variety of games that range from strategy, puzzle solving, to social party games, to cover the widest range of skill sets and participants preference.
The cost of the club $50.00 will cover the games used by the club and will be used in years going forward, so year after year, the club will have more and more opportunities for selection in gaming.
The club will meet two days a week right after school 2:30-3:30. Tuesdays will be teaching days, and Wednesdays will be playing days. This way the kids will have more time to be able to play the games to completion.
If you have any questions please feel free to email Dan Vieu dvieu@sd113a.org
