Aiming to Keep You Informed
April 5, 2019
From the Office
We hope everyone enjoyed some extra time with family and friends last week!
Next week, our students will be completing the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR). This newly titled assessment resembles the PARCC tests that students have become familiar with over the last couple of years. In order to prepare for the IAR, teachers have spent time this week reviewing skills and strategies that will benefit students. There are also a few steps that parents can take to support their students during testing:
- Encourage your child to get a good night's rest (8-9 hours minimum), eat a healthy breakfast, and to do their very best!
- Remind your child to charge their Chromebooks fully each night, to bring their corded headphones each day (ear pods will not work), and to approach these tests with confidence!
Please reference the schedule below for testing sessions. All lunch periods will remain the same next week. Students will complete 3 Math tests (60min/each) and 3 English Language Arts tests (90min/each).
Tuesday, 4/9: Testing session begins at 8:50am (Math)
Wednesday, 4/10: Testing sessions begin at 8:50am ELA) & 12:45pm (Math)
Thursday, 4/11: Testing sessions begin at 8:50am (Math) & 12:45pm (ELA)
Friday, 4/12: Testing session begins at 8:50am (ELA)
We encourage our students to view tests like the Illinois Assessment of Readiness as a chance to show how much they have grown academically in the course of one school year. We are very proud of the work our students and teachers have put forth this year!
Have a great weekend!

Student IAR Testing April 9-12
Next week, students will complete the new Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) testing. IAR is state mandated and replaces the PARCC test. Please read this IAR Parent Letter or visit https://www.isbe.net/iar for more information regarding the Illinois Assessment of Readiness. At Westfield, students will complete testing April 9 - 12th with make-up testing the following week.
The Illinois Assessment of Readiness will be used to measure the growth of each student as compared to students around the state. We believe that our students should approach this type of testing with confidence and view it as an opportunity to demonstrate how much they have grown this year and how prepared they are to move to the next level.

Parents: PE/Health Student Project Due on April 12th
Dear Parents/Guardians-
Your student will be involved in an outside of school project for their PE class. The project is called “Healthy Food TV Show” where they will make a video that shows how to prepare and make a healthy food dish (ex: fruit smoothie, chicken kabobs, cauliflower pizza, etc). They can do this project individually or with a group of up to 5 students. We told the students that it is highly recommended to have adult supervision when they are preparing/making their food for their safety and the safety of the home. Please have a conversation with your child/children--when they plan on doing this, what they are making and who will be supervising (if needed). This project is due next Friday, April 12th. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your child’s PE teacher.
Sincerely,
Westfield PE Department
