ZB Parent Bulletin
A message from the Principal...
Hello ZB Families,
Along with our celebrated success concerning our school report card, we also have an increased emphasis on the importance of attendance and student conduct this quarter. In order to promote a productive and safe learning environment for everyone, we need student conduct inside our restrooms, cafeterias, and classrooms to improve. We experienced a few code yellow designations due to activity inside the restroom last quarter and as result we are prohibiting any food items to be inside the restroom. While this may seem like a peculiar directive, the restroom tends to serve as space that students occupy for various reasons other than actually using the restroom.
Attendance continues to be a point of emphasis as we'd like to decrease our chronic absenteeism rate in alignment with our district goals for 2025. A chronically absent student is one that has missed 18 days of school excused or unexcused. Please understand that a chronic absenteeism designation for a student can have adverse effects on academic performance and post-secondary opportunities. We need parent participation to help encourage our students to show up every day for school. There will be attached incentives for students that do meet attendance requirements. We'd also like to remind families that parking on campus is a privilege in which academic, behavioral, and attendance metrics are attached. Students who do not meet these requirements may be subject to loss of parking privileges.
With Zee-Bee Pride,
Mr. Zackary Livingston

Annual Illinois Report Card
Dear Zion Benton Township, High School Community,
The Illinois State Board of Education has released the annual Illinois Report Card that contains school performance data from the 2022-23 school year. Please see the attached link for your review.
Having received that data we’d like to recognize that schools are more than test scores. They are a home away from home for our students and staff. Our school's focus is not only on academic success but also on mental health and social-emotional growth. We strive to forge strong bonds with families and the community to prepare our students to thrive in the next step in their educational journey.
On our 2023 Report Card, we are proud to see:
Increase in 9th on Track metrics (90.4%)
Maintenance in Graduation Rate (86.6%)
Increases in teacher retention (91.8%)
Our teachers, administrators, and staff, in partnership with you, are continuing to focus on the pathway to proficiency to experience gains in Math, Science, and chronic absenteeism.
One component of the Report Card is the annual summative designation – a federally required accountability category. It identifies schools for support and describes how well our school is meeting the needs of all students based on eight indicators of performance. Some of these indicators include:
The 5 Essential Climate Survey
English Learner Progress to proficiency
College and Career Readiness
Our summative designation of “Commendable” means that our graduation rate and our individual student groups meet the requirements for the second highest designation in the state.
Our Report Card is an opportunity we welcome to celebrate our strengths and reflect on our goals, so that every student can reach their fullest potential. At Zion Benton District 126 we believe every single student can meet high expectations and that you are a critical partner in your child’s education. When we all work together on behalf of our students, we can achieve more. Therefore, we encourage your feedback and suggestions. I invite you to complete this Parent Survey and join us on December 13th, 2023, to ask questions about our Report Card and share your own vision for Zion Benton’s future.
