NEWS & NOTES
Marty's Minute
October has many events and days to acknowledge and celebrate. First up, we have National Principals Month and Indigenous People's Day on Monday, 10/10. Please join me in celebrating and thanking our incredible principals for leading our schools and district.
On Monday, October 10th, our school district recognizes this day as Indigenous People’s Day. Please find more information below and take some time to explore what this day means to you and those around us.
We also can't forget Homecoming this weekend! The parade and game should be fun for all. Take care and I hope you all have a great weekend!
National Principals Month
Indigenous People's Day
Port Angeles School District observes October 10th as Indigenous People’s Day. This day is for celebrating, recognizing, and honoring the beautiful traditions and cultures of the Indigenous People, not just in America, but around the world. Their way of life and culture carries wisdom and valuable insights into how we can live life more sustainably. Indigenous Peoples’ Day is a holiday that celebrates the Native Americans, the original inhabitants of North America. For many people, Indigenous Peoples Day is a time for reflection and remembrance.
The Port Angeles School District honors this day, and we take a stand for and support the Indigenous people on this respected day.
Hear from Jonathan Arakawa, PAHS Alumni and Lower Elwha Klallam Language Teacher in this video “Why I Protect” featured by Outside Magazine. Jonathan shares some of the traditional Indigenous values that describe the connection to the land for the Klallam Nation: https://bit.ly/3fx6Opq
October is Disability History & Awareness Month
This month, we will launch a social media campaign on how to be an ally using the images below. You can access the files on our District Hub HERE if you’d like to use any of this text or images in your classroom or building.
Staff Spotlight - Allison Adamich

Where are you from? Lake Stevens, Washington
Favorite thing about your job? Working with kids & watching them grow!
Anything you'd like to share about your family? I have been married to my husband, Chase, for 9 years. He is originally from Port Angeles, and after college, we decided to move here. We met at the University of Washington 13 years ago. I have a 1.5-year-old son named Jackson, who enjoys reading books, going on walks, and watching baseball/football. We love to take family vacations to Maui and plan to take Jackson on his second trip there next Spring.
Do you have any hobbies? I attend Storm King Athletic club for CrossFit with my whole family, even little Jackson loves going to the gym. We like to spend time outdoors and enjoy our family lake cabin at Lake Sutherland. We are huge UW Husky football fans and enjoy going to games.
If you could choose to do anything for a day, what would it be? Be on the beach in Hawaii with my family. Enjoying the sun & snorkeling with sea turtles.
What is your goal for this year? My goal for this year is to find a better work-life balance. Being a new mom and learning new curriculums this year has been challenging. I want to be able to make sure I am creating a balance in my life.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years? Living & teaching in Port Angeles! We absolutely love it here, and don't plan to leave.
One fun fact that most people don’t know about you: I took piano lessons for over 10 years as a kid, and still love to play.
