KEY OF EXCELLENCE
Focus your attention on the present moment. Keep a positive attitude.
This Is It! is about focusing on NOW instead of later, or next week, or next month, or next year, or yesterday, etc., and making the most of it. A positive This Is It! attitude can make everything we do and every day productive, fulfilling, and fun!
Life is full of distractions and opportunities to do something else, something other than what we’re doing now. Many of us spend a lot of time thinking about those other things. Instead of making what we’re doing now “it” our focus is often elsewhere—on things we wanted to do, could have done, should have done, or want to do “sometime.” Whenever our thoughts are occupied with something other than what we’re doing, we miss what’s going on around us in the moment … while we’re waiting for the next moment to arrive the present moment slips away.
When we live in the NOW we have power! With a This Is It! attitude we make the present “it” and find joyful moments that we might otherwise have missed!

Jefferson Elementary is dedicated to supporting our local community, and we are excited to announce our upcoming fundraiser for the women's shelter. Throughout the month of April, we will be rallying together to provide much-needed support by organizing weekly fundraisers for specific items crucial to the shelter's operation. From essential hygiene products to socks and Laundry cleaning items, each week will focus on a different set of necessities. We believe in the power of collective action and are committed to making a tangible difference in the lives of those in need. Check out the flyer below to see the items we'll be fundraising for each week and join us in making a meaningful impact on our community. Together, we can make a difference.

The month of April will start with us finishing up long rope jump roping. We had to change the order of units from last month's newsletter, so we did our fleeing and chasing before jump roping. After jump roping, we will begin a unit on different frisbee activities, working on throwing and catching as the skills being practiced. To finish out the month, our T-Ball/Wiffleball unit will take place, focusing on throwing, catching, and striking. Again relying on the weather to cooperate, hopefully some of these activities will be able to take place outside!

Celebrating Military Families at Jefferson!
Military members and military-connected families make many sacrifices for the security and safety of our nation, specifically military-connected children during their K-12 careers.
April is designated as the Month of the Military Child or “Purple Up! For Military Kids”. Across the nation, states and school districts will celebrate the important role military children play while their service member parents serve our country.
At Jefferson, we recognize April 15 – 19 as Military Family Spirit Week. We encourage you to join us in supporting our military-connected children and families with the following dress-up days!
- April 15 – Wear colors to support your favorite military branch (Army green, Air Force blue, Marine red, Navy blue)
- April 16 – Red, White, and Blue day
- April 17 – Camouflage day
- April 18 – Wear Purple (Purple represents all branches of the military.)
- April 19 – RED (Remember Everyone Deployed) day – wear red!
We wish to say thank you to all that have served and continue to serve in our community! Thank you for your service! ~Your Jefferson Staff and Students~
SEL SNAPSHOT
The school counselor and Mrs. Proctor (our school social worker) are hard at work providing SEL (Social Emotional Learning) lessons in each classroom. Did you know that each classroom receives 200 minutes a month of these SEL lessons? How amazing is that!!!
Have you ever wondered what in the world we are doing in these lessons? We use lots of things to provide these lessons with the main ones being: Quaver, Second Step, Keys of Excellence, and Mind-up. We have worked hard to create a scope and sequence that follows the CASEL (Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning) competencies (self-awareness; self-management; social awareness; relationship skills; responsible decision-making) and have also created assessments for each competency. In April we will move into our final unit of the year, responsible decision-making. Responsible Decision-Making lessons focus on making good choices and evaluating consequences.
If you have any questions please feel free to reach out!
April is Autism Awareness Month!
At Jefferson, you will notice staff wearing special shirts to support bringing awareness to this special topic!
