September Update
Tuesday, September 29, 2020
We are wrapping up the month of September! That does not feel possible given it feels like we just started.
It also feels like we are settling in, if that's possible?!? Meaning, our students are learning the new routine, the new normal. While we are hoping the day comes when we return to the way it was, we are making the best of it! I do miss seeing our students' smiles. It is really amazing how much we miss behind the mask. Please know we are experiencing many of the same challenges and changes just as your family is, for the first time. We will continue to do our best to ensure we are providing an amazing education for our students.
We had a fire drill today! Our students exited the building promptly and they were reminded this was a drill; no fire danger was present. We will have another drill on Thursday for the next crew of students.
In the coming weeks we will be practicing safety protocols with ALICE given emergency procedures, commonly referred to as lock down drills. ALICE is an acronym and parents will receive a reminder letter in the coming weeks with more information.
There are many updates below, please take a moment to review what is happening at Homecroft!

Picture day will be October 19th for cohort A and October 23 for cohort B students. Distance Learning students are welcome to join us, too! Please know you may have to wait in a socially distanced line. DL students should plan to arrive after 10:30 on either day.

Fundraiser
Our Homecroft Cardio Fit event kicked off today, and we are thrilled about this year’s program! We’ve asked the fundraising experts at Booster to power our Cardio Fit program, making our fundraising simpler, more profitable, and more FUN. Our Cardio Fit Event includes EVERY student in a fun, fitness event that focuses on character while helping our school raise some much-needed funds.
The last two years students have run 30-35 laps to help their school. This year, students will be exercising for 35 minutes in the classroom for our Cardio Fit event!
This year, our entire school is raising funds for chrome books. Our goal is to raise $7,000, and, if you’d like to, we are inviting YOU to help!

Here’s how you can support Homecroft:
- Register your student on FUNRUN.COM by searching “Homecroft Elementary.” Then, use FUNRUN.COM to log donations for your student(s).
- Reach out to family and friends by SHARING your Student’s Pledge Page. With FUNRUN.COM's smart sharing tools, reaching out to sponsors is easier than ever. The easiest way to get donations is to simply click the Facebook share button on your student’s pledge page. Plus, with a few clicks you can create a custom Student Star Video to share on social media. You can also use the Easy Emailer to connect with friends and family. As you gather donations, be sure to record each sponsor’s e-mail address so they have the opportunity to easily pay for your student’s pledge online via credit card.
- Ask your child about the Sports City Now Character Lesson of the Day! It’s a fitness theme all about inspiring students to be active and activate their character. Students will travel the country learning how to live and play with more character from REAL kid-athletes. Our dynamic, documentary-style videos will teach your students about Teamwork, Care, Courage, Grit, and Celebration. Join along by watching the fun character videos with your student(s) on FUNRUN.COM.
Thank you for supporting our school, regardless of financial participation. We can’t wait for your Homecroft Cardio Fit happening on October 9th & 12th!
FAST info and next steps
Results will be shared with parents during conferences. In the meantime, please know we may be contacting families if students need additional support through intervention. The areas we are able to offer intervention are through our reading intervention teacher and Reading/Math Corps through Americorps Members.
If you have concerns or questions about your child's academic progress, please connect with your classroom teacher.
We are also in the process of securing enrichment opportunities through e-Squared. More to come on that program, too.
Parent Pick Up/Drop off
Also, if parents are dropping off students in the morning, they need to stay in their vehicles until the doors open at 7:30 AM. Why? We do not have supervision at that door until that time and we need to be mindful of social distancing.
