A Thoughtful Classroom Update
Living and Learning in Third Grade
Nightly Homework
Just a reminder that each night students need to be making time for reading and math fact fluency! Reading can be enjoyed independently or as a partnership! Make sure your child marks the minutes on their 300 minute reading calendar! Math fact fluency needs to be FAST and FURIOUS!!
Students also have log-ins for Typing Club. This can be practiced at night, as well! It is NOT a requirement, but a fun alternative to playing video games!! We do practice our typing skills 4 days a week during writer's workshop! This practice will help prepare students for the rigor of typing during the PARRC assessment that they take in the spring!
Reader's Workshop
Workshop has been abuzz this week while trying to bring our fiction unit to a close! Lessons focused on learning to develop ideas, thoughts, and connections to a text, learning to distinguish my own point of view from that of the author or character, and learning to describe characters in a story by using their dialogue as evidence. We capped off the week with our fiction summative test. This score will be reflected on the first quarter report card!!
Math Workshop
Math workshop continues to push the students to persevere! This week students completed math test corrections and the Real World Experience for unit one. Both assignments will be reflected on the report card. Be looking for the test to come home next week! We begin unit two on Monday! The topic is multiplication and division.
Writing Workshop
A museum walk this week gave everyone an opportunity to appreciate the writing work of their peers. The students got to experience what it means to write for an audience. They also learned that feedback is an important piece to the writing process. All students practiced how to give constructive and effective feedback! They also learned how to receive feedback and set goals for improvement!! What an amazing week!
