Spring Has Sprung!
May brings many exciting events for Rogers Park! Field trips, school-wide events including the Talent Show, Band and Orchestra concert, Kids Heart Challenge Assembly, Teacher Appreciation Week (next week), Super Sweeper event, and the Ukulele Club performance, and Field Day are just a few things on the horizon! We have lots of learning to complete, but also are looking forward to an exciting May. Thank you for your continued support and partnership through the year supporting students. Our combined efforts cultivating young minds is truly the most important work.
mClass Testing
The AK curriculum grant requires districts to use mClass as the Early Literacy Screener. Transitioning to mClass in Spring 2023 will provide an opportunity to build capacity and problem solve the move to the new Early Literacy Screener for the 2023-2024 school year as well as provide a Spring and Summer data point for reference in the Fall. The district testing team will be at Rogers Park all day April 20th and the morning of April 21st to administer the assessments for grades K-3.
Q Online Registration Competition Begins April 25th - May 9th

Fighting Fentanyl: New ASD partnership to help families
The District has received reports of Fentanyl usage in the community, including several recent incidents of possible student usage. Like all things that happen in our community, it eventually impacts ASD.
The Anchorage School District has partnered with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the Alaska Fentanyl Response Project to develop an outreach plan for students and families about what they need to know about Fentanyl.
ASD’s commitment to fentanyl awareness
This month, all ASD principals took part in Fentanyl awareness training sponsored by community partners. The training included a documentary video, Dead On Arrival, that is free for the public to view through StopTheVoid.org.
The District currently has Narcan nasal spray emergency kits in the nurse's office of every school site. More than 200 additional kits were handed out during the principal training event.
Library News
Thank you to all the students who participated in Rogers Park’s first Read-a-Thon. Our amazing readers read over 50,000 minutes – that’s a great accomplishment. Thank you for all the families who supported the readers and encouraged their participation and getting sponsors. Helping to promote the love of reading and learning is a foundation of education, and it was amazing to see it in action. Whether a student read or little or a lot, every student received a prize to acknowledge their participation.
Eleven of our readers had sponsors of 200.00 or more. Thank you! That money will go directly back to the library for new books and materials. Students submitted requests for new materials, and Mrs. Levine quickly reviewed and ordered the materials that are right for our students and staff.
The real success of the Read-a-Thon was that every class in our school had students participation – thank you to all the students and families who showed their support of our library.
Anna W from Ms. Belts – Read the most minutes for Intermediate she
Peter A from Ms. Zeuli – Read the most minutes for primary
Mason C from Kaltenborn raised the most in contributions from sponsors for Intermediate
Michael S from Flanigan raised the most in contributions from sponsors for Primary. He was followed closely by classmate Cameron. Dejuan M from Ms. Comer was had the third most money raised by sponsors.
Thank you to everyone who helped make this fundraiser a great success.
Bicycle Permission Form
Students are beginning to ride their bikes to school. All students who ride to school on a bike need to have a bike permission form on file in the front office. Please click the link below to access the permission form. Please send these forms home with interested students. They are to be turned in to Kayla or Suzanne in the front office.
