BACKGROUND
In Transforming Teaching and Learning Through Data-Driven Decision Making, Mandinach & Jackson define data-based decision making as: The collection, examination, analysis, interpretation, and application of data to inform instructional, administrative, policy, and other decisions and practice. We know from Goldring’s work in Leading with Data, that “today’s effective educational leaders use data extensively to guide them in decision making, setting and prioritizing goals, and monitoring progress. They use data to define needs, set goals, plan interventions, and evaluate progress.” Data-based decision making occurs at ALL levels of MTSS implementation and ALL levels of instruction.
