Meet the Experts
Students in Ms. Pirrotta's class shared their All About Guinea Pig books. They researched information about survival needs and habitats. They hooked their readers with interesting questions. They included text features such as fun facts, diagrams, captions, and glossaries. In addition to all the reading and writing they did to become experts, they have firsthand experience, having spent the entire year caring for Maui, their class pet.
STEM Lab with Ms. Aboulenein
The STEM room has been a busy place! During our last cycle, Kindergarten explored what an architect does. We studied various famous structures from around the world and recreated the structures with STEM materials. We learned about the Pyramids, the Leaning Tower of Pisa, the Taj Mahal, the Great Wall of China, the Space Needle and so many more. We also connected this learning to literature by reading Dreaming Up: A Celebration of Building by Christy Hale.
First graders finished constructing their 3 dimensional trees. Each side of the tree reflects a different season. We talked about what is happening in space that causes the change in seasons. This connected back to the science lessons being taught in the classrooms.
Second graders conducted a snowflake study. We learned the science behind how snowflakes form and why each one looks different. We then created 6 sided paper snowflakes.
We are now moving onto something new and very exciting in STEM! We are learning to program our new DASH robots. The robots were generously awarded to us by the Mount Pleasant Education Foundation. Thank you to the foundation for this incredible opportunity. The students are elated to explore all that the DASH robot can do.
Be Our Guest

Performances will be March 8th and 9th at 8:00 p.m., March 10th at 1:00 p.m., and March 15th and 16th at 8:00 p.m. in the John Whearty Auditorium at Westlake High School. To order tickets please visit https://www.showtix4u.com/event-details/81570.
Mt. Pleasant Visual Arts Festival
You are cordially invited to attend the opening reception of our annual Arts Festival at the Westlake High School Library on Monday, March 18th, anytime between 6:30-8 p.m.
As always, selected artwork from grades 2 and 5 will showcase the talented young artists who demonstrate quality craftsmanship and dedication to the arts in school. We are very excited to have the community come out to see the artwork, meet the artists, and celebrate the creativity and commitment to the arts in Mt. Pleasant.
If your children’s artwork is being displayed, they will receive an invitation in their backpacks by March 11th.
Thank you.
We look forward to seeing you there!
