LEARWOOD PTA PRESENTS AVON LAKE BIG KIDS CLOSET SALE
Learwood Concessions
Learwood Parents,
We will be using the Concession stand at Learwood as our primary fundraiser. All we are asking is that each family donates a Concession stand item that can be sold during school events. All proceeds will be used by the Learwood PTA to make Learwood the best it can be. All donations can be dropped off in the office anytime during school hours. We have already begun to sell, so all donations are greatly appreciated. PLEASE label donated items "PTA Concessions."
Thank You in advance for your donation!

The Avon Lake Big Kids Closet is a resale event where families sell gently used clothing and accessories (including furniture, shoes, toys, sports equipment and other items), geared primarily toward kids four and older. WALK ON WEDNESDAYS (wow!)
In the month of October, all Avon Lake Elementary Schools, Troy Intermediate, and Learwood Middle School will walk each Wednesday, a program called Walk on Wednesday (WOW)! The goal is to promote this example of a lifelong wellness activity. The walk is sponsored by the Avon Lake City Schools and the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. Each week, students, teachers, and all other school personnel will leave the building at 8:00 AM and walk a pre-set course for fifteen minutes. A new theme will be offered each week, and we would like students to participate in the theme each week. During the last month of October we will be collecting shoes (new/used) and donating them to Planet Aid. This is a great way to get rid of the worn out shoes from Washington DC.
Themes:
Week 1 Oct. 4th – Wacky Clothing (this is Homecoming Week)
Week 2 Oct 11th – Wacky Hats, or just a hat
Week 3 Oct 18th – Bright Colors (wear your brightest colors)
Week 4 Oct 25th – Invite a friend
DISTRICT NEWS
Our school district has been dealing with negotiations with reference to NGR. The local media has recently picked up on the information (links provided). Below is a brief summary from our Treasurer and Superintendent. Thank you for your continued support of our schools.
The Avon Lake City Schools Board of Education took the first step September 12, 2017 towards approving a proposed 8 year settlement with NRG Power Midwest LP. Our school district and Lorain County have been parties in pending litigation opposing NRG’s appeals to reduce their real estate values for tax year 2013 and 2015. Appeals related to the 2013 case were scheduled to be heard by the Ohio Supreme Court Spring 2018 as NRG was seeking to reduce their fair market value from approximately $54 million to $3.5 million. The settlement dismisses this case, as well as, the 2015 Ohio Board of Tax Appeals case. The settlement is structured to preserve the $54 million value for 2013 then progressively decrease over the remaining years of the settlement avoiding the need to refund NRG for real estate taxes already paid. The average annual value over the length of the settlement is $39.5 million, which is $1 million higher than the value set by the Ohio Board of Tax Appeals for 2013. We now have a guaranteed negotiated real estate value through tax year 2020, which allows us to budget our real estate revenue with more certainty and eliminates any further contesting of real estate value through 2020. Our district will need to pass an additional resolution once all of the details are finalized between the parties.
For more information on the proposed 8 year settlement between the School District and NRG please visit www.avonlakecityschools.org/treasurer. If you have additional questions, please contact Autumn Reed, Treasurer, at 440-933-5163 or Robert Scott, Superintendent, at 440-933-6210.
