Mrs. Grimes Weekly News
Week 5
Dear Families
It is so hard to believe we are in the last week of the 1st six weeks! This first six weeks has truly flown by! What a GREAT start to a school year!
Please remember, on Friday we will have early release...AES will release school at 11:45AM. The buses will run an early release schedule and extended school day programs as well as after school programs will pick up at the earlier time. If your child has other pick-up arrangements on this day, please let me know as soon as possible.
Also, students do not have school on Monday, October 5th. This is a Professional Development Day for teachers.
Please continue to collect BoxTops at your house. We are having a little friendly competition...so ask family members as well as friends to snip them for you! This is "free" money for our school...the more BoxTops the better!
Specials This Week:
Monday: Gym
Tuesday: Fine Arts
Wednesday: Pit
Thursday: Gym
Friday: None- Due to Half Day Schedule
We will have Library on Tuesday when your child comes back to school on October 6th. I'll send a Remind Text to remember their library books if they are at home!
READING - Our weekly high frequency words are becoming more challenging. Students are seeing words that are new to them and we will continue to review them! Please cut out the sight word flashcards sent home with your student on Mondays and use them throughout the week. You can keep these at home with you. There is no need to turn them in with their homework on Friday. Keep them in your car if your a family on the go! Our saying is class is "Read more, read better!" Thank you for your help!

Asking for your help!!!!
I am asking for your help! Last year, I purchased 4 hokki (pronounced hockey) stools for our classroom. These stools have a convex bottom and are a great alternative to chairs for our active first graders. I wrote a grant this summer and asked for donations through DonorsChoose.org to get a class set of hokki stools. The cost of 20 stools for our classroom is $2268. To this point, I've raised $1508 for our class. We ONLY need $760 more to get a class set of hokki stools!!! I am so excited for our students! I know together we can do this for our students! My project expires November 17th, so I am trying hard to get the funds available to have a hokki stool for each student in our classroom. They absolutely LOVE using the 4 stools we have. Please ask your student about them and they will tell you how wonderful they are to help keep their body and mind active and focused for learning. Please take a look at the grant I wrote and consider donating toward our class set of stools. I think it would be AWESOME for this class to be able to utilize these this year.
