- Several Frequently Asked Questions from school districts and response from Iowa DE:
- 1) Are there sources out, or resources out, yet for Iowa Government standards? We have put together lists of links for content areas within the standards. Scroll to the bottom of this page and you can find the Iowa history links and the civics/government links. https://iowacore.gov/content/applying-skills-and-content-social-studies
- 2) I know that they have to teach all the standards in required courses, but we have questions on Power Standards. Is there a suggestion on how to pick out what/which these standards should be? The Department doesn't endorse the use of power standards unless districts are just interpreting power standards to be those that will be summatively assessed. If that is the interpretation, many districts are thinking about the anchor standard statements or the inquiry standards as the "power" standards.
- 3) Do students have to master all of these standards, or do they have to be taught/touched on in their required classes? Students should be taught all standards and should be able to show knowledge of them, at least through formative assessment.
