TERRIFIC Kids for August
TERRIFIC Kids is a student-recognition program that promotes character development, self-esteem and perseverance. “Terrific” is an acronym for Thoughtful, Enthusiastic, Respectful, Responsible, Inclusive, Friendly, Inquisitive and Capable.
Students work with their classroom teacher to establish goals to improve behavior, peer relationships, attendance or school work. A Terrific Kid is chosen from each homeroom every month. Recognition includes a Terrific Kid sticker, pencil, bumper sticker, ice cream sandwich party, and presentation of certificates.
PRE Garden
Garden Expert, Tim Ray, from Mississippi State Extension Center as the Master Garden Representative, toured our QUEST garden and gave input on what we can do to improve the plant life. He shared about his career with our students and what he does for the extension center. Students took notes and analyzed what we need to do first, as well as research the cost for the solutions.
Labor Day Holiday
Free Breakfast & Lunch
Dear Parent or Guardian:
We are pleased to inform you that the Gulfport School District will be implementing a new option available to schools participating in the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs called the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) for School Year 2022-2O23.
What does this mean for you and your children attending the school(s) identified below?
All enrolled students of Anniston Elementary, Bayou View Elementary, Bayou View Middle, Central Elementary, Central Middle, Pass Road Elementary, West Elementary, and 28th Street Elementary are eligible to receive a healthy breakfast and lunch at school at no charge to your household each day of the 2022-2023 school year. No further action is required of you. Your child(ren) will be able to participate in the CEP meal program without having to pay a fee or submit an application.
Gulfport High School is unable to participate in the CEP program due to low participation in submission of the Free and Reduced Meal Application. We encourage parents that have a child(ren) enrolled at the high school to continue to submit the Free and Reduced Application. Applications can be found online at the Gulfport School District website under Child Nutrition.
If we can be of any further assistance, please contact Child Nutrition at 228.865.4680.
Healthy Cart on Fridays!
Healthy Cart is back and better than ever! We take orders on Friday’s and items will be delivered to the student’s homeroom class. Healthy Cart is the class business of QUEST. All money raised is used to fund QUEST class and its many activities. Please support our students while enjoying healthy snacks. All items are between 50¢ and $1.00.
New GHS Football Game Procedures
At GHS football games this year, there will be new procedures put in place. Please click below to read about the new procedures and how they will help create a family friendly event and reinforce pride in the Gulfport Community.
New Bus Stop Guardian Guidelines
Those students will not be allowed to ride the p.m. bus route for three days, thus the parent/guardian will be required to pick them up in the car line. If arrangements for a greeter are not made and a second offense occurs, then students will not be allowed to ride the a.m. and p.m. bus route for three days.
FREE ONLINE TUTORING for 3rd-5th grade
If you ever need help with your school work, there’s a live tutor available to help you 24/7 on Paper, if your child is enrolled in grades 3-5.
Available anytime, anywhere, no matter what you’re working on, you’ll be able to connect with an expert tutor instantly. These are real people who are friendly, approachable, and want to help you succeed. To learn more about Paper and how you can get started, visit the MDE + Paper Website and check out the student resources.
To get started with a tutoring session all you have to do is log in, ask your question, and they’ll give you a helping hand. To login:
Type your school’s name
Log in via Google using your school credentials
Once you let a tutor know what you’re working on, you can expect them to ask you questions about what you’ve tried, what you understand, what you don’t understand, and from there they’ll talk you through the steps. Paper is a place for you to improve, and that doesn’t happen when you just look up answers.
Free Educational App for prek-2nd grade
In HOMER’s explicit, systematic, and sequential reading program, children follow a set path that starts with the introduction of a letter sound and its corresponding letter and moves step-by-step toward reading and spelling words using the targeted sound in conjunction with sounds a child has already mastered. The child can rely on this progression early— before the end of first grade (National Reading Panel, 2000).
