Spring Break???
Like many of you, I am ready for the warm weather. Time to break out the capris and shorts! As the year begins to wind down, I thought I would use this opportunity to remind you of a few things. I know the end of the year is a hectic time, so I thought I would let you know ahead of time.
If after reading through this newsletter you have questions that are unanswered, please do not hesitate to contact me!
Writing Prompt
Units of Study 2nd Grade Teachers - Please give the narrative prompt again, since your final unit is poetry.
Please click on the ELA Assessment Chart link below for more information.
Fountas and Pinnell Benchmark Assessments
End of the year means Fountas and Pinnell Assessments again. What a wonderful opportunity for you to celebrate each student's growth as a reader this year! The window for F&P testing is April 20th – May 8th (click on ELA Assessment Chart link above). The scores are due by May 11th. Please send a copy to Julie Paur, Dr. John Simpson, and your building principal.
REMINDER: Please complete each student’s instructional level on the Fountas and Pinnell Student Folder (see picture above). Be sure to record the date for each test and the book read. Don't forget to place the final Fountas and Pinnell Assessment inside the folder. If you would like to include all three assessments for the year that's fine too. This folder will be sent to the next teacher at the end of the year or beginning of the next year.
Portfolios
After looking at our portfolio system last summer, the ELA facilitators and I decided to revise the system. At the end of each year, please keep the final Fountas and Pinnell Assessment and two writing prompts (beginning and end of the year). All assessments should be placed inside the Fountas and Pinnell Student Folder (white file folder that tracks student progress - see folder photo above). This folder will be sent to next teacher at the end of the year or beginning of the next year.
Spring Break!!!!
I wish you all the best spring break! Enjoy the weather!
And please, please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions (and please note that email is almost always the best way to reach me!).
