What's Up in 4th Grade!
Language Arts
Spelling Pattern: Compound Words (grandmother, football, backyard)
Latin Roots: vert/vers = turn, mis/mit = send
Grammar Skill: Editing and Revising
Reading Skill: Story Elements (plot, characters, setting)
This week we will be completing our final copies for our essays on career choice. We will also resume Reading Champs.
Math
You child will need to know
- how to reduce a fraction to its simplest form 3/12 can be reduced to 1/4 by dividing the numerator and denominator by 3
- find equivalent fractions by multiplying or dividing the numerator and denominator by the same number
- compare fractions with like and unlike numerators and denominators
Please continue working on multiplication and division fact fluency.
Vocabulary to know: improper fractions, mixed number
Fraction math test is Friday, February 3.
Science and Social Studies
After Winter Break, we are going to embark on a journey in social studies to discover why the Spanish established missions and presidios in Texas. Students will learn about Texas' role in the Mexican War and the impact it had on Texas, and the six flags that flew over Texas.
Vocabulary to focus on : villas, missions, and presidios
