Girl Scout Cookie Eating Contest
Mr. Hussain and Mr. Niswander participated in the Girl Scout’s Fishers Service Unit Cookie Eating Contest this past Friday, January 8th. It was great seeing our teachers on stage representing CRES and eating as fast as they could! Mr. Hussain tied the first round of cookies with another teacher from HRE. He had to go toe to toe with the teacher from HRE but ultimately came in second place. It was very close! Both Mr. Hussain and Mr. Niswander were also judges for the Troop Banner Contest. Under pressure, they both did wonderfully. Mr. Hussain also won the Fan Favorite Award. Hooray for our teachers!

Response-to-Instruction (RtI)
RtI is a general education initiative designed to provide high quality instruction and interventions matched to student needs, and using learning rate over time and level of performance to make important educational decisions. The RtI model is based on a three-tiered model of service delivery with a focus on early intervention and prevention of academic and behavioral concerns. Data collected during this process provides valuable information regarding students’ educational progress and response to interventions. Students who do not demonstrate a response to well-implemented, scientifically-based interventions at the Tier 3 level would be referred for an educational evaluation to determine eligibility for special education. RtI is a component of HSE’s Child Find Process.

National Winnie the Pooh Day Celebration, Back in Fishers Jan. 17
Books, cartoons, movies; Winnie the Pooh and his friends have been a childhood favorite since they were created by A.A. Milne in 1882. Winnie the Pooh came to life in these classic novels and for the third consecutive year Fishers Parks & Recreation is bringing him to Fishers for a free, National Winnie the Pooh Day celebration. Families are invited to Cumberland Park on Sunday, Jan. 17 from 1 to 4 p.m. The celebration includes:
- Photo opportunities with Winnie the Pooh! Charge the batteries and don’t forget a camera, these photographs will be memories that last a lifetime.
- Opportunities to play inside. Let’s face it, January weather is tricky. Indoor activities will include coloring pages, table top games and light refreshments to enjoy while warming up.

Outdoor activities also feature the chance to build an Eeyore House from sticks, explore animal artifacts and books to enjoy at the 100 Acre Wood story nook.
City of Fishers Creates New Opportunities for Resident Engagement
After outlining 2015 priorities in his State of the City address, Mayor Fadness emphasized the importance of resident engagement and the lasting impact that engagement has on our community. Within the last year, residents have risen to that challenge by volunteering to mentor, beautifying public spaces and even getting more engaged with City Council meetings and Mayor’s Night Out events to learn about community happenings. Once again, the City of Fishers is offering another opportunity for residents to improve their knowledge of the Constitution and Bill of Rights.
Teaming up with Robert Leming, National Director of We the People program, the City of Fishers is offering a 6 week course titled Constitution 101 for residents 18 and older. Classes will begin on Wednesday, Feb. 24, and will take place on Tuesdays, ending on Tuesday, Mar. 29. Classes are free to attend and take place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the City Hall Auditorium or at the Fishers Fire Department as indicated.
Each participant will receive the We the People: The Citizen and The Constitution textbook and a pocket constitution. We the People is sponsored by the Fishers City Council, Hamilton Southeastern Schools and the Indiana Bar Foundation. While free to attend, registration is required.
Additional information about weekly meeting topics, and to secure a spot in We the People, please visit www.fishers.in.us/WTP. Questions about the program can be directed to Robert Leming at leming@civiced.org.
