Greetings from the Principal
Dear Riverview families,
It is my pleasure to announce that Riverview 2nd grade teacher Anna Sahadeo has been named the Finalist from Region 3 for Kansas Teacher of the Year. This is an immense honor, and our staff is very proud of Miss Sahadeo's accomplishments and dedication to her profession. Please see below for excerpts taken from the "What's New in USD232" Announcement (click here for entire article):
"This award recognizes excellent teaching in the elementary and secondary classrooms of the state. Nominations are made in each of four regions in the state. The KSDE, sponsor of the Kansas Teacher of the Year program, appoints regional selection panels comprised of teachers, education administrators, and higher education representatives to select semi-finalists and finalists from each region.
Each panel selects six semi-finalists – three elementary teachers and three secondary teachers. From those semi-finalists, the panel in each region then selects one elementary finalist [Miss Sahadeo] and one secondary finalist. The Kansas Teacher of the Year is selected from among the state’s eight regional finalists.
The mission of the Kansas Teacher of the Year program is to build and utilize a network of exemplary teachers who are leaders in the improvement of schools, student performance, and the teaching profession. The Kansas Teacher of the Year team, comprised of the Teacher of the Year and state finalists, serve as ambassadors for education in Kansas, making public appearances across the state promoting education and the teaching profession. The individual selected as the Kansas Teacher of the Year is eligible for national distinction as National Teacher of the Year."
On a different note, today is the kickoff for our PTA fundraiser! Thank you in advance for your support, it truly makes a difference.
Make it a great week!

A Note From the Nurse...
Sniffle? Cough? Sore throat? It’s that time of year when children start to come down with illnesses. Some can be contagious, some are not. So how do you know when to keep your child home from school?
Ask Yourself this about YOUR Sick Child:
The American Academy of Pediatrics suggests answering these three quick questions:
1. Does your child have a fever? District policy states that children with a temp of 100 degrees or above should remain home (until fever free for 24 hours)
2. Is your child well enough to engage in class? If your ill child seems too run down to get much out of school, keep them home.
3. Do you think your child has a contagious illness, such as the flu, cold, rash or pinkeye? If so, keep them at home until they're no longer infectious (and a physician has cleared them to return).

Stay Healthy,
