Principal's Message
Dear Mary M. Knight Families,
I hope this message finds you well as we approach an exciting week leading up to Spring Break. I wanted to take a moment to highlight some key events and information from our latest newsletter.
This week, we have our Spring conferences on Wednesday and Thursday, March 27-28. Wednesday will be a normal 8:00 am start time, with conferences in the afternoon. If you haven't heard from your child's teacher or advisor about their conference schedule, please reach out to the high school office at (360) 426-6767.
We also have our Child Find services on the morning of Thursday, March 28. If you have a child from birth to 5 years old residing in our district, or know someone who does, this is an excellent opportunity to schedule a screening to identify if your child may need or benefit from special services as they enter pre-school.
I want to congratulate our nine middle and high school students who are currently competing in the SkillsUSA State Conference in Tacoma. Their success highlights both their talents and our school's commitment to providing a comprehensive education.
Last week, we had a fantastic spirit week, with our elementary and secondary students participating in daily themed days. The 9th grade won the secondary competition for having the most average participating students. Great job showing your school pride, OWLS!
This month, we are focusing on Cooperation, which is one of the three traits that help students Be Kind. I encourage you to discuss with your family how you can work together to reach shared goals at home.
Lastly, I want to remind everyone that our PTO fundraiser ends on March 29th. If you have any questions, please contact our PTO president, Stephanie Ayers, at pto@mmt.wednet.edu.
Let's make this week a great one as we head into Spring Break. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out.
Best regards,
Josh Stoney

Guest Speaker to grades K-3
Last week, Ms. Jewett brought in a child's book Author, Mr. Darcy. Mr. Darcy is a past coast guard and educator who authored several children's books. He came it to read to the kids, explain the story behind his books, and inspire kids to read and write. Thank you to Mr. Darcy for coming to be with our OWLS.
Staff Professional Development
Did you know that on Wednesday late starts, MMK staff use that time to focus on professional development and professional learning? This is time that the district is provided to staff to focus on areas of the school to support student learning and success. Last week, the MMK staff all participated in a professional development that focused on student literacy in what we call "close reading" strategies designed to help students improve their comprehension and literacy school.

March - Cooperation
This month’s focus is Cooperation. One way to think about Cooperation is “working together to reach shared goals.” As a family, talk about how this definition applies to how you work together at home. What are some goals you share? Cooperation is 1 of 3 traits we will focus on throughout the year that helps students Be Kind. Across grade levels, students will be developing skills like perspective-taking, conflict resolution, and leadership.
You can find out more about Honesty with your child's grade level newsletter bellow.
----Above the Line and Positive Referrals----
Weekly above the line students
This year, Mary M. Knight is introducing a new recognition system that aligns with our theme for the year: "above the line." This philosophy emphasizes the importance of being intentional, thoughtful, and purposeful in our actions and decisions. Even when faced with challenging situations, we strive to make the best choices by taking a moment to reflect and consider our options. Our staff was recently asked to nominate a student who embodies the "above the line" mentality.
This week's above-the-line OWLS are:
Elementary: Carson Siegle, Alaina Tinoco, Faith Reed, Ryder King, Bailee Mock
Secondary: DTarin Lovejoy, Allyiah Wood, and Carissa Reeves
