Attendance Rocks
Attendance Update for John Tuck Elementary School
January/February 2020
Though John Tuck has remained at a high attendance rate compared to other schools in the district, December and January saw our overall attendance drop from the beginning of the year. Student illness and family vacations combined to drop our school wide attendance below 95% for the first time this year. While illness usually necessitates missing school, vacations and appointments should be planned outside of school whenever possible.

Tips to Improve Your Child's Attendance
- Avoid extended vacations that require your children to miss school. Try to vacation during school breaks only.
- Try to schedule preventative health care appointments for days off of school or afternoons.
- For younger children, set a regular bedtime and morning routine. They need 9 to 11 hours of sleep. Consider keeping technology in another room at night.
- It helps to lay clothes and pack backpacks the night before.
- Get to know teachers and administrators. Regular communication can help parents stay on top of academic progress, behavioral concerns and social/emotional growth.
- Set clear guidelines. Show that attendance matters to you and that you won't allow an absence unless someone is truly sick.
- Turn to the school for help. Schools can connect you with community resources and help you troubleshoot.
