Things that make me go "humm"
I have struggled with this so much. I know you do too. It's funny because so many people want to say that teachers only work 9 months of the year; however, it's clear they don't see you up at the school until 7, 8, 9, sometimes 10pm. They don't see you working on the weekend to prepare for lesson the coming week. They don't see you working over the summer to prepare your classroom for the new students; working to create new and exciting learning opportunities for students; and taking everything you see and trying to figure out how you can translate it to the classroom for engaging, fun, and deep learning.
Why is it that we can't just walk away at the end of the contract day like all other professions? Why can't we just go home, love on our own families and decompress, so we are ready for the next day? What is it that we must do differently, so that you can leave at the end of the contract day and focus on your family after hours? How do we create work / life balance in education? Is this possible? Can we still be as passionate, dedicated, and impactful if we do?
