The Climate
The climate in Rome is Mediterranean and is a great climate for crops which I will be talking about later. Summers are warm and dry in Rome. There are wet and mild winters.
The Land
Rome lies in the Italian Peninsula and due to Rome being built close to a river, the river has contributed to fresh water to drink and fertile land which is a great thing. Due to living near bodies of water, we are able to trade by sea.
So Many Bodies of Water!!!
The closet body of water near Rome is the Tyrrhenian Sea. Other bodies of water near Rome is the Mediterranean Sea, the Ionian Sea, and the Adriatic Sea. This has provided protection, transportation, and trade for Rome.
On the right, it shows a map of where the Mediterranean Sea is.
The Crops
Rome has fertile land and a climate that is just right to farm and grow crops. Some of the crops that Rome grows is wheat, barely, grapes, olives, beans, and etc.

Animals Herded in Rome
The animals that are herded in Rome are chickens, goats, sheep, cattle, pigs, oxen, and etc. Oxen plowed the fields. Some wild animals that they hunted were boar and deer. These animals provided meat, clothing, cheese, milk, and etc.

Protection for Rome
- The things that protects Rome include mountains, hills, river, and etc. Two of the mountains that protected Rome was the Apennines and the Alps. They protected them from enemy attacks and invaders. The other mountain was Mt. Vesuvius which was a volcanic one. (Pompeii)
- There are 7 different types of hills that also protects Rome.
- Last but not least, the Tiber River protects Rome and also gives us fresh water and etc.
How the Geography of Rome Encouraged Settlement
- One of the reasons how the geography of Rome lured people to settle is because of the protection.
- Another reason is the fertile land which equals to good farming.
