Solar Eclipse on April 8th
On Monday, April 8, 2024, Illinois will be in the path of a total solar eclipse. The timing of the eclipse is expected to take place during the afternoon hours (approximately 12:51 - 3:22 pm.). Planning in School District #109 is already underway with regard to providing an educational component to this rare event, similar to what we’ve done in past years. Of course, the safe viewing of the eclipse is a priority, and we want to make sure as many of our students as possible have a chance to participate in the viewing of this astronomical event for this generation in the safest way possible. School District #109 has purchased ISO 12312-2 compliant and CE certified eclipse glasses that meet international safety standards. Please be aware that the only safe way to look directly at the eclipsed or partially eclipsed sun is through special-purpose solar filters, such as certified eclipse viewing eyewear. Home-made filters or ordinary sunglasses, even very dark types, are not safe for looking at the sun; the concentrated solar rays can enter the human eye(s), potentially causing serious and permanent injury, up to and including blindness.
Teachers and Principals will use their professional judgment in determining the level of participation for students. Because of the safety concerns associated with viewing an eclipse, the attached permission slip should be completed and returned to your child’s teacher if you do not want your child to participate in viewing, no later than March 21st so we can start preparing for this special event in advance of our upcoming Spring Break.
Please be aware that the end of the totality period and a portion of the partial period will overlap with our schools’ dismissal time. All schools will dismiss following our normal schedule on April 8th. Please be sure to have the appropriate conversations with your children about the importance of not looking up into the sky on their way home from school. Should parents/guardians prefer to sign their children out of school early on this day, the schools will fully understand and honor your preference to do so.
Thank you for your attention and cooperation pertaining to this matter.
Respectfully,
Blair S. Nuccio, Ed.D.
Superintendent

Hello Bobcat Families!
We have added a new option for attendance reporting. While guardians will still be able to call in, we are also offering an attendance form for families to submit attendance digitally. If your student will be absent, please use this Attendance Reporting Form or call us at 708-496-8713 to report the absence.
Thank you!

Arrival & Dismissal Procedures

It is imperative that our families follow the outlined plan so that our staff can be sure that all students get into the building safely in the morning, and get to their arranged transportation at dismissal time. Does Your Child Have a Cell Phone at School?
Does your child have a cell phone with them when they are at school? If so, we need you to fill out our online Cell Phone Permission Form. By clicking here and filling out the form, you are giving your permission for your child to have their phone at school. You are also acknowledging our Cell Phone rules/policies.
Is Your Child Celebrating a Birthday?
REMINDER: No edible birthday or holiday treats will be allowed.
If your child has a birthday during the school year and you would like to recognize the special day, please think about sending non-edible items such as pencils, stickers, erasers, etc.
For Our Bus Riders
Don't Be Late!
8:10AM 1st Bell
8:15AM Tardy Bell
2:30PM School Dismissed
All students arriving late to school (after 8:15AM) must report to the office for a tardy slip. Continuous tardiness may constitute other disciplinary consequences. Our goal is for all students to arrive at school on time each day. When students are late, they miss instructional opportunities. Please keep in mind that students arriving after 9:15AM are no longer considered tardy, but will instead receive a half day absence.
Being late is detrimental to all students' learning, especially if it occurs on a consistent basis. Be sure to do all you can to prevent tardiness. Your child will thank you for it!
