- ADMINISTRATOR OF THE YEAR -
Davies High School Principal Troy Cody has been named the Fargo Public Schools 2024 Administrator of the Year. FPS Superintendent Dr. Rupak Gandhi made the announcement today as a surprise following an emergency response drill at Davies.
Cody began with Fargo Public Schools as an assistant principal and activities director at North High School in 2007, where he served until starting as the principal at Davies in 2012. He began his career in education as an elementary and middle school teacher at St. Anne’s School in Bismarck from 1991-92; was a math teacher at St. Maries Public School in St. Maries, Idaho from 1992-94, at Granada-Huntley East Chain Schools in Granada, Minn. from 1994-99; and a math teacher at Fairmont Area Schools in Fairmont, Minn. from 1999-2007. He also had an administrative internship at Fairmont during the 2004-05 school year. Cody was an assistant football coach, track coach, and basketball coach at St. Maries; head football coach at Granada-Huntley-East Chain and Fairmont; and golf coach at Fairmont.
Cody’s Administrator of the Year nominators say he “puts tremendous effort into helping students reach their full potential.” Cody gives students the guidance they need to succeed and is ready to support them in any way he can. He is always willing to stop what he is doing to listen to a student and makes each student he interacts with feel important and seen.
His colleagues describe him as someone who has earned his role as the leader of his building and leads by example. They say he “embodies the qualities that he expects out of his staff.” Nominators shared he does this is by displaying a growth mindset. He learns from experiences, embraces discomfort, and continually researches new innovations in education. He and Davies High School have led the way in the District’s adoption of Standards-Based Instruction and Evidence-Based Reporting due to his ability to absorb new concepts and relay information to his staff. Due to Davies’ success implementing SBI and EBR, the school has hosted leaders from other school districts in the region to teach them about these new practices.
Cody holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics with a minor in coaching from the University of Mary in Bismarck, N.D.; a Master of Science in Educational Leadership from Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall, Minn.; and a Master of Science in K-12 Education from Saint Mary’s University in Minneapolis.
Cody follows Discovery Middle School Principal Amy Herrick as the District’s recipient of the Administrator of the Year honor. The Fargo Public Schools Administrator of the Year award has been presented within the District for 11 years. The honor is regularly bestowed as part of the District’s annual Staff Recognition Program. The District also annually recognizes a Teacher of the Year and a Support Staff of the Year.
