February 5th Combined HSA Meeting for BSES/CES/GVES Parents!
No Name Calling Week January 15-19
During the week of January 15-19, Bethel Springs will join schools around the United States in celebrating National No-Name Calling Week. To support this, we are asking all Bethel Springs students to think about how words and actions can hurt. We will challenge ourselves to use kind words and do kind deeds and see how good it feels to be both on the giving and receiving ends of kind, respectful words and actions.
Take the Great Kindness Challenge! You can make our school a better place by practicing random acts of kindness this week. A random act of kindness is something nice you do or say at any time in order to brighten someone’s day. Even a small act of kindness can make a difference in someone’s day. Here are some examples: Smile at someone, give someone a compliment, play with someone new at recess, thank someone for something they have done or said, include someone in a conversation, be a friend who listens, write a letter to someone who has made a difference in your life, share a snack at lunch.
Your teachers will give you a paper heart on which you will write about one act of kindness that you performed this week. These will be displayed in the lobby so that we can see the many ways in which we can be kind or be of service to others. We will also share some of these acts of kindness on morning and afternoon announcements.
On Wednesday January 17th we will invite you to wear your "Bethel Springs Chooses Kindness" t-shirts if you purchased one. If you did not purchase a "BethelSprings Chooses Kindness" t-shirt, feel free to wear any t-shirt with a positive message on it or create your own t-shirt with an appropriate message in keeping with the theme of kindness, respect, and making the world a better place for all.
On Thursday, January 18th we will have a special Spirit Day called “Proud To Be Me Day!” in which each student and staff member gets to come to school dressed up in something special that celebrates his/her personality. Students and staff can come dressed as an Irish Dancer, a Sports Player, someone from a favorite book or movie such as Harry Potter or Star Wars—whatever expresses some aspect of one’s personality and interests! Creativity is encouraged!

Bethel Springs DIY Rain Barrel Community Event!
On Thursday February 22nd, as a part of their involvement in the Philadelphia Zoo's Unless project, 5th grade students in Ms. Slavin's class will be hosting an event for interested BSES families! Participants can learn about water pollution and how simple changes can make a positive impact on animal species, not only here at home, but in different parts of the world. Diane Andrejczak from the Pennsylvania Resources Council will be discussing stormwater pollution and how the installation of a rain barrel can help reduce water pollution.
Workshop participants will leave with a 55 gallon rainbarrel and fittings. The workshop will take place in the Bethel Springs LGI room from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The cost per family is $25.00. We have a limited amount of rain barrels so participants will be taken on a first come first serve basis. Please fill out, and return the attached form to Rebecca Brown Room 222.
