Hero or Zero
Andrew Jackson Is A Zero
Trail Of Tears
In 1838 and 1839, as part of Andrew Jackson's Indian removal policy, the Cherokee nation was forced to give up its lands east of the Mississippi River and to migrate to an area in present-day Oklahoma. The Cherokee people called this journey the "Trail of Tears," because of its devastating effects. The migrants faced hunger, disease, and exhaustion on the forced march. Over 4,000 out of 15,000 of the Cherokees died. The original plan was to have them travel by boat, but that failed when they experienced drought.
Worcester v. Georgia
Was a case in which the United states vacated the conviction of Samuel Worcester and held that the Georgia criminal statute that prohibited non-Native Americans from being present on Native American lands without a license from the state was unconstitutional.
The opinion is most famous for its dict, which lay out the relationship between tribal and the state and federal goverments, building the foundations of the doctrine of United states.
Indian Removal Act
This area was home to the Cherokee, Creek, Choctaw, Chicasaw and Seminole nations. These Indian nations, in the view of the settlers and many other white Americans, were standing in the way of progress. Eager for land to raise cotton, the settlers pressured the federal government to acquire Indian territory.Andrew Jackson, from Tennessee, was a forceful proponent of Indian removal. Also later gold was found on the land, so the vote to kick them off the land increased significantly.
Indian Removal Acts ( political cartoon )
In this cartoon we see the Indian getting thrown out and hit out of its home with a stick that reads war. On the ground there is a brick that says Pea-ce ( broken ) that shows that Jackson is so greedy for gold and land, he will kick NATIVE Americans off it.
