Palmer High School
Principal's Post
February has arrived
Our last week of January went out with a blast in the form of seventy miles an hour gust, and the last day of the month offered a celestial phenomenon that won't occur for another 150 years. The expression, once in a blue moon, takes on a whole new meaning when it is a supermoon that's 14% larger than a typical full moon, and it was also a lunar eclipse that made it a blood moon.
Our science teacher, Mr. Evans, whose favorite subject is astronomy, enthusiastically described this lunar trifecta event to students and staff on the morning announcements before the night it occurred. I hope some of you had the chance to enjoy this once in our lifetime event.
On the school calendar, I feel like getting through January is getting over the hump of the school calendar and our shortest coldest winter months. As of last weekend, we will receive over eight hours of daylight from sunrise to sunset. The days are getting longer by an average of five minutes and thirty seconds through February. This is a good thing, and to provide another goal in clear sight, we will have spring break in only five short weeks.
Academic Awards Ceremony
The students will receive a certificate, and either a silver or gold star for their outstanding achievement.
Parents are welcome to attend.
Palmer High Athlete is an Olympian.
Grace Miller who attended PHS her 9th and 10th-grade year and is a current member of the Palmer High cross-country ski team will be traveling to South Korea to represent the U.S nordic ski team in the Paralympics. Our school, state, and country are proud of Grace and this accomplishment. https://tinyurl.com/y8j9b7p8
