Family/Parent Teacher Conference Recommendations: Information Item
1. As a result of our conferences we want families to walk away with knowledge of:
- Student Strengths- Academics, social-emotional, etc.
- Ways to help students grow and resources to support learning
- Current levels of student performance
- Do they have friends
- How we will partner with the family to support the child (next steps)
2. When communicating at the conference our expectations are that:
- Teachers will mutually set a goal with the families for the desired outcome of the conference
- Use the time to develop a relationship with the family
- Utilize the time to provide the current levels of performance
- Utilize the time to provide resources to support the current level of performance (enrichment and additional support)
- Recognize that the parent-teacher conference is not the first time a teacher has discussed student progress with a parent, especially if the student has been struggling (notes home, face to face meetings, emails, phone calls, etc.)
Suggested material for use during the conference to support our practices:
MAP, BAS, Aimsweb, WUoS on Demand, RUoS Conferencing, Common Assessment Data, Exit Ticket Data, Portfolio work, additional artifacts of student work, IB ATL, profile sheets

Positive Office Referrals - Action Item
POR's do not replace feathers so please continue to distribute feathers to our students often. Remember to specifically name the behavior that you’re acknowledging.
The goals of POR's is to find a way to acknowledge the positive behaviors at some point in the year for every student in your classroom. You should choose 1 student per week with no student repeats. Many teachers find it helpful to track who has received a POR.
When I receive these, I make a phone call to parents to share the POR and then announce it over the intercom system for students to come to the office to be recognized.
Please complete positive office referrals and turn them in according to this schedule:
Monday: 5th grade
Tuesday: 4th grade
Wednesday: 3rd grade
Thursday: 2nd grade
Friday: Kindergarten and 1st grade
Please note that these are not read over the intercom on the day they are received. It takes a day or 2 to make all the calls to parents.
Extra positive office referrals are being stored in the staff workroom and on the intercom podium in the office.
