What a Wonderful Week
Guin Foss Community,
What a wonderful start to the school year! The word is spreading and Guin Foss is the school to be! We have more students enrolled at Guin Foss this year than we did last year, and we couldn't be happier.
Thank you for your feedback regarding our first day welcoming event. Staff members were equally as excited to see, high five and/or share a hug with former students and new students. It was a great atmosphere and the exact tone we were intending to start the school year with. Please a few minutes to review the important dates, events, and information below.
Gratefully,
Ray Hernandez
Principal, Guin Foss Elementary
Reminders
Campus Safety: We are a closed campus. Gates will be locked by 8:30 a.m. If staying on campus, parents must check into the office and receive a visitor’s sticker. Visitors must have a stated purpose/destination that has been previously arranged with the teacher (i.e. volunteering in the classroom). Parents in the morning class, please say your goodbyes at the blacktop and parents in the afternoon class please say your goodbyes at the backpacks J. Please remember the staff parking lot is not for kindergarten pick up. Please park your car and walk to our gate. Students will not be dismissed to a car parked in a parking spot. If your child forgets their lunch or backpack, please drop it off with the school office.
THURSDAY FOLDERS: Each Thursday all students will be bringing home a folder containing important information for parents. One side is reserved for your child’s graded schoolwork and the other will hold all office communication. Please get in the habit of emptying and reading the papers in this folder every Thursday evening. There is also a place for you to sign and return the folder each Friday morning to the classroom.
DOLPHINS ARE SMART WINNERS: Students will be monitored for their SMART Behavior: safe, motivated, academic, respectful, team players. Students who receive Smart cards will put their names in for a weekly drawing of various school supplies and rewards. They can also save them for trimester award parties. This positive behavior rewards program was presented to students and parents in various formats including video clips and power point lessons. We hope you will support our school’s positive environment and encourage your student to earn these rewards. We will start giving out weekly awards at our Friday Flag ceremony and their names will be listed in the Thursday Message.
DROP OFF & SAFETY WARNING—LET’S KEEP OUR KIDS SAFE: Driving too fast through the parking lot and dropping your child off on Vanderlip puts your child, other parents, students, staff members, and you (the driver) in an extremely dangerous situation. Please drive safely and do not drop your child off on Vanderlip unless you are parked along the curb. When dropping your child off, please keep a single line in the FIRST parking lot. There is absolutely no parking in the staff lot directly in front of the school, in red zones or red curbed areas. Having the motor running and/or a family member waiting in the car does not make it legal. If you notice this occurring, please inform the office immediately. DO NOT PARK OR DRIVE IN THE BUS LANE, which is in the staff lot. Please remember, school buses have the right of way. Please remember that students cannot be dropped off before 7:55 a.m. Warning notices will be sent home with students who are dropped off too early. ALL STUDENTS MUST ENTER THE SCHOOL THROUGH THE CDC GATE NOT THE FRONT OFFICE. ONLY STUDENTS WHO ARE TARDY ARE TO COME THROUGH THE FRONT OFFICE.
Lunch Applications
BACK GATE ENTRANCE: We know that many families use the back gate for an entrance onto our school campus from the adjacent neighborhood, and we love that! We encourage students to walk to stay healthy and lessen the congestion in our parking lot! However, we will be locking the gate each morning at 8:30 and unlocking it again from 2:30 to 4:30. We apologize for any inconvenience this causes our kinder families, but for safety reasons, it is necessary to lock that back gate during school. If you will be staying on campus past 8:30, please use the front gate to exit the school.
ABSENCES: Just a friendly reminder to call or e-mail the office each day your child is absent. If you phone or e-mail in the absence(s), you do not have to send a note when your child returns to school.
