Samuel de Champlain
Samuel de Champlain was from France. In 1608 he sailed up the St. Lawrence River off the coast of Canada and founded the city of Quebec (which was back then named New France.)
Jamestown
In1607 John Smith, an English men, and his crew settled in Jamestown ,Virginia. However, the colony was a complete disaster because they were more concerned about finding gold, than planting crops. Though it managed to pull through and after several years it became the first permanent settlement.
Pilgrims
Pilgrims moved from England because they wanted religious freedom. They landed in Plymouth Jamestown.
Puritans
Puritans, like Pilgrims, saught religious freedom but from the Anglican Church. They left England and settled in Massachusetts.
French and Indian War
A dispute over the Ohio Valley led to war between the French and the British. The French loose to the British; the eastern half of North America was gained for the British.
