District One91 Profile of a Learner
Developed in collaboration with community members, families, students and staff — and born out of the district’s Strategic Roadmap — the District 191 Profile of a Learner provides a clear explanation of the knowledge sets, skills, and abilities that District 191 students will gain as they progress from Pre-Kindergarten through high school graduation. If the Roadmap is the “how” we do things, the Profile is the “what” for students in PreK through 12th grade. It lays out clearly that District 191 students will be: Academically Ready, Civic-Minded, Culturally Proficient, Financially Ready, Future Ready, Life Ready, and Workplace Ready. Looking ahead, we’ll use the Profile to inform our curriculum all along the PreK-12 continuum. Over the next year and beyond, a big part of our work will be identifying where and how we’re instilling these attributes in our students, and addressing any gaps. As we fine-tune this process, we will rely on our valued community partners to continue to provide expertise, feedback, and student experiences, as we support the comprehensive needs of whole student development. Please reach out to Becky Akerson, the Associate of Arts Coordinator, at 952.707.6075 or rakerson@isd191.org for additional information.
Change to Chill
Are you getting enough sleep? It's recommended that teenagers get 9-12 hours of sleep each night. Getting adequate sleep reduces stress, restores our immune system, boosts our mood, and improves memory. Sleeping well is even associated with better grades and increased energy throughout the day. If you are a student, sleep is an especially important part of your education! Check out the Tips for Better Sleep | Change to Chill
Growing Through Grief
Again this year, Burnsville High School is partnering with the Park Nicollet Foundation to provide grief support services to students through the Growing Through Grief program. If your student has experienced the death of a close family member or friend and you would like them to participate in this program, please reach out to Lori Maidment, school counselor, at lmaidment@isd191.org or (952)707-2146 to get your student involved in this important program.
Mental Health
If you have had difficulty accessing mental health support for your child and are interested in your student receiving these services at school, BHS has two programs available:

We also are partnering with NOW Telemental Health Program. This service provides free online counseling sessions offered in partnership with the Park Nicollet Foundation.

Open Door Food Shelf of Eagan The Open Door has been serving Dakota county for the past 14 years and currently provides food support to more than 15,000 Dakota County residents each month! This opportunity would be a great avenue for someone looking to explore careers in human services and in general the nonprofit world, or someone looking to develop their leadership skills in their community.
-The Open Door is launching a new high school volunteer program where students can receive valuable experience in nonprofit leadership by being a lead volunteer during our evening hours. Students will provide training and support to other volunteers, work in a variety of volunteer positions, and ensure clients are having a positive shopping experience. A student will cover either a Tuesday or Thursday evening from 4:30-7:00 pm for the duration of the school year. Students can fulfill their volunteer hours and learn how to effectively manage a food shelf. Interested students can email our Eagan Pantry Manager, Sean Danaher, at sean@theopendoorpantry.org
-After school volunteer opportunities are available from 2:30-4:00 pm and Tuesday/Thursday evenings from 4:00-7:00 pm. We have a variety of volunteer positions available including working in the warehouse, assisting families with shopping, and weighing groceries before clients leave. Our volunteer shifts are very flexible and can be done whenever it’s convenient. To apply to be a volunteer, click here:https://www.volgistics.com/appform/713036045
