Days Until Graduation: 41
School Days Until Graduation: 22
This is your last month as a high school student, but you must complete the following tasks to ensure graduation!
- Turn in your REQUIRED 20 hours of community service.
- You need to complete your last Naviance task by May 15th. Please check in with me to have me walk you through as soon as you commit to your Fall plans (college, working, year-off, military, ect.). This survey is vital to make sure we have correct information regarding college next year, where to send the final transcript, contact information, etc. so it must be correct!
- If you completed a concurrent enrollment course through ACC, you will need to order transcripts to be sent from ACC to your college.
- During senior checkout, you will need to return ALL library materials, textbooks, and technology-related materials (this includes Chromebooks and chargers) to the library. If you are done with a textbook or other material now and want to get it off of your account, feel free to return it to the library before senior checkout. ALL materials must be returned NO LATER than May 15th. We recommend turning in your items before May 15, as it will speed up the process for your senior checkout sheet. We encourage you not to wait until the last minute to return your materials.
- All fees must be paid by May 15th. Check MySchoolBucks to pay your fees.
Apprenticeships/Internships/Jobs
- Please see this list of opportunities as compiled by our DCSD Work-based Learning Specialist. It has almost anything a student might be interested in!
Colleges
- Have you committed to a school or program?
- Make sure to contact the schools/programs you will not attend in the fall to let them know you are no longer interested. They will stop contacting you and it opens a spot for someone else.
- See Ms. Gentry in the Main Office to complete your FINAL Naviance task. It is a graduation requirement, but it also tells me where to send your final transcript, or your final plans after high school.
- Red Rocks Community College is our college of the month for April! Since 1969, Red Rocks Community College has assisted students in meeting ambitious career and educational goals in an exciting, collaborative environment with multiple pathways to success. We deliver career-enhancing courses, certificate programs and degrees that represent a solid investment in each student's goals and career success. Red Rocks Community College embraces the leadership role of providing education that is firmly rooted in real-world applicability. Red Rocks Community College has campuses in Lakewood and Arvada. Courses are delivered in formats from traditional classroom, online, self-paced, and weekend classes.
- QUIZ: How Do I Know If the College I’m Considering Is Right for Me? If you're looking for a second opinion on your college options, this quiz can help. It asks important questions that will steer you into making the best choice for you.
- If you need to send your transcripts from Arapahoe Community College, you send them through the ACC website.
- We have a few colleges visiting Castle View this spring. If you listed a college in "colleges I'm applying to" or colleges I'm thinking about" in Naviance, you will receive an e-mail notification about the visit as soon as it's scheduled. If you don't have colleges updated in Naviance, you will have to frequently visit Naviance or the College Visit calendar to check upcoming visits. You must register for each visit in Naviance and pick up your pass the morning of the visit.
- The University of Alabama - Tuesday, April 23rd at 9:00 AM
- Final transcripts are final because they include final semester 2 grades and the graduation date. Students request these transcripts through a final survey in Naviance as part of their senior check-out. Seniors can complete the survey with Ms. Gentry as soon as they commit to post grad plans. Once the district adds the graduation date to the transcript (usually in the beginning of June) I send out all final transcripts. You do not need to pay another $3 if you have already paid for that school to receive a transcript.
- Know your terminology for college decisions. College decision is regarding the decision from the college, not your decision to attend. You can/should update your college decisions in Naviance. Only use the terminology provided in the letter you received from the college.
- Waitlisted - The college placed you on a waitlist for admission. Admissions committee may or may not admit students from the waitlist.
- Deferred - Your application will be reconsidered and a decision will be rendered at a later date. This can be referred to as living in limbo.
- Guaranteed Transfer - is a program that offers students from a community college guaranteed admissions to several colleges. This should not apply to any of our high school students.
- Conditional Acceptance - the student will be accepted provided some changes are made (e.g. higher test scores are provided, GPA raises after Term 4, etc.).
FAFSA
Need to Know FAFSA Updates
On March 12, the U.S. Department of Education (USDOE) announced that they had started to send Institutional Student Information Records (ISIRs) to universities and colleges. They sent out 1,000 ISIRS and will gradually begin to ramp up. Students could expect aid offers to begin arriving maybe as soon as mid-April.
Federal Student Aid (FSA) will send an email to all students with a submitted form indicating that their form has been processed and that the information has been sent to their institution.
Students will be able to print and review their FAFSA submission summary to help them understand if any additional actions are necessary. Please note: Students will not be able to make corrections on their FAFSA form until the last week of March.
After months of waiting and workarounds, the USDOE announced that they corrected the application to allow contributors without a Social Security number to use the online applications, with two limitations. The first is that student-contributor matching requires the exact entry of personally identifiable information. The second is that the system cannot retrieve IRS data for those contributors, so they must enter their information manually.
Opening of the FAFSA Completion Portal
The CDHE FAFSA Completion Portal will be ready for users in early to mid-May. We're working to send out data share agreements to school districts and past users. If you have questions, please contact us at FAFSA@dhe.state.co.us.
Colorado Application for State Financial Aid (CASFA)
CASFA Updates
The 2024-25 CASFA ISIRs have incorrect SAI calculations and our software developer plans to correct the SAI calculation at the end of March. (We are tentatively looking at March 25-29.) The 2024-25 CASFA ISIRs will be reprocessed to update/correct the SAI calculation by the end of May. Students who complete their 2024-25 CASFAs between December 2023 and before the SAI calculation is corrected may edit their CASFA to obtain a new ISIR with the correct SAI.
