Highlights from UW-Madison Admissions Session
If you missed the great presentation from UW-Madison at Back to School Night, here are a few takeaways and quotes from the presentation:
- Admissions is holistic. UW admission counselors review all parts of a student's application, take the essays seriously and tell your story-they read every single essay twice! There is no magic formula of GPA's and ACT scores for admission.
- MHS students are not compared to students from other high schools. All students are evaluated within the context of their school (e.g. not comparing a McFarland student to a Waunakee student etc.)
- Many schools in Wisconsin and across the country utilize a standards based grading system and MHS students are NOT at a disadvantage for admission because of it. Remember, admissions counselors are reading transcripts from around the world-they are very familiar with McFarland High School and SBG.
- UW admissions counselors work diligently with MHS counselors. Together, they review the MHS School Profile, which explains course offerings and grading philosophies. Communication between UW and MHS counselors regarding regarding applicants is constant.
