SWAL HIGH SCHOOL MATH CONTEST
Monday, #PointerNation's High School Math Team traveled to Darlington for the annual SWAL Math Contest and came home with some medals!
At the high school level, five students from each division compete both individually and as a team. Students take three individual tests as well as one team test. For the team contest, an individual average is calculated and the team test score is added to this average to get each division's overall score.
-- This year, our Advanced Algebra team with members Mac Busser, Grady Finley, Ethan Hook, Landyn Moellers, and Carson Schroeder were the team champions! The Calculus team came in a close second, and the Geometry and Pre-Calc Divisions each placed third.
This year's individual award winners were:
-- Gold (highest score in each division): Ethan Hook (Advanced Algebra) and Bobby Allbright (Calculus)
-- Silver (second highest score in each division): Regan Schuette (Calculus)
-- Bronze: Hank Allbright (Geometry), Carson Schroeder (Advanced Algebra), Landyn Moellers (Advanced Algebra), Anthony Buleje Cadena (Pre-Calculus), and Derek Hottenstein (Calculus)
Great job, everyone!

FINANCIAL LITERACY EVENT
The Junior Class attended Southwest Wisconsin Financial Literacy (SWIFLE) at Southwest Tech in Fennimore last Wednesday! SWIFLE is a financial literacy simulation where students engage with area businesses to gain insight and understanding of the pressures and decisions associated with living costs and monthly spending.
Each student was assigned a specific career, wage, lifestyle, family situation, etc. They spent the morning buying homes, cars, insurance, clothing, and vacations; paying fines; dealing with health and dental care; repairing broken water pipes and more. They even wrote checks and used debit and credit cards to pay area businesses (volunteers) for services.
SWIFLE truly gave them an accurate taste of reality as they prepare for their futures! Thank you to all involved.
