BIG THANK YOU
What We Are Learning This Week
We have about 12 1/2 days left.
Wow! That blows these four teachers away. It was just yesterday when we opened our doors. We have seen so much growth from your children - not just physical grow but true maturity. Your children are solving their own problems or know where to get the help they do need. We are going to try to make each day count. We have many engaging lessons planned. While we are still learning, the focus for our learning is becoming more integrated and is more project based. We are still taking grades. All school expectations still apply.
Language Arts/Reading/Writing: We are finishing up the publishing stage on our research project. This is a major grade for our students. Soon students will start making a diorama without shoe boxes. Please be aware next week, your child may ask a plastic animal from a craft store to put in their diorama. The animals can also be made out of lego, clay or paper.
Social Studies: We are continuing a personal financial literacy unit. We are looking at the topic of wants and needs. Some of the big ideas from this unit will be:
Families meet basic needs in different ways.
People exchange goods and services to meet their needs and wants.
Work provides opportunities for people to produce and consume goods and services.
Spelling/Words Their Way: We have ended Words Their Way for this year- no sort will be coming home. On Monday, we are giving your child a list of 5 high frequency words. On Friday, we will have a sight word test on the following words List 29 - found, wash, slow, because, far. Please work with your child to learn these words. Your child should be able to read and write these words with fluency and automaticity.
Math: We starting the math side of personal financial literacy. We will be integrating vocabulary and concepts from Social Studies. We will be opening Falcon stores in our classroom. If you would like to contribute to items that can be placed in the stores we would be very happy. Think small trinkets for parties, cool pens, stickers, bubbles, sidewalk chalk, but no food items please. We also take unopened kids meal toys.
Science: We will finish up learning about animal habitats. Learning about where animals live and what their environment is like will aid us in creating our diorama's for our language arts project.
BOOKS RETURN: ALL BORROWED BOOKS ARE NOW DUE
Please return all loaned school materials:
- Do you know where your child's library books are? If they are lost, please contact Mrs. Moore in the library. She can let you know about replacement procedures. All library books must be turned in by May 25th.
