Glendale-River Hills
Parent Newsletter October 2020
Superintendent Update
Parents, Guardians and Community Members:
I am pleased to be back working in the schools in the Glendale/River Hills community. My career includes 37 years as a Superintendent of Schools, 17 of which were as the Superintendent of Schools for the Nicolet High School District. I will be retiring as an Associate Professor in Educational Administration at Concordia University Wisconsin on October 6, 2020 and will begin my new duties as the Interim Superintendent on October 7th. My wife and I have been residents of Glendale for 30 years. My three sons and one of my daughter-in-laws are all graduates of Glen Hills and Nicolet High School.
I would like to thank the School Board for the confidence they have shown in me. I also appreciate the professionalism and assistance Superintendent Larry Smalley has shown me during the transition period. I have high expectations for all of our students and look forward to working as a team with the outstanding Glendale/River Hills staff and faculty. I welcome the opportunity to once again serve the Glendale/River Hills community.
Elliott Moeser, Ph.D.
PARENT/GUARDIAN SURVEY
We value your ongoing feedback!
STUDENT SURVEY
In addition to gathering feedback from parents and guardians, we also want to elevate student voices to understand how students are doing-socially, emotionally, and academically during our virtual learning model.
Parkway Families:
We would like participation from all of the Parkway students and are asking for your help in sharing their voice. Please complete the student feedback survey with your child so we can make sure your child's virtual learning experience is as positive as possible. Student feedback is greatly appreciated!
If you have a Parkway student please fill out this survey with your child: Parkway Student Survey Link.
Going through this with your child might sound like: "When your teacher was doing the lesson, was that hard for you, or did it make sense?"
Glen Hills Families:
We will be sending this same survey to all 4th through 8th-grade students via google classroom. The survey Glen Hills students will receive is the same survey included in this newsletter. If you prefer to support your child with sharing their voice you may help them using the attached link, as well: Glen Hills Student Survey Link.
Thank you for all your support with our virtual learning model!

Dear Parents & Guardians:
Please join us for a VIRTUAL eight-part discussion series designed to provide caregivers additional resources to support the Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) needs of children. Each session of the series will be scheduled to begin at 6:30 PM and last for one hour. The Series will be facilitated by our Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) team in the district, which includes our School Psychologist, School Social Worker, School Counselors, and our Behavior/SEL Coach.
We recognize that during this time of distance learning there may be an increased need for support due to these unprecedented circumstances. Each of these eight sessions will help caregivers become more familiar with social and emotional learning and encourage families to actively engage in their own growth while supporting the children in the home.
Series Agenda: 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM

Glendale River Hills School District is offering a convenient way to sign up for this benefit. Aramark, your new food service provider, has created a Google Form to make it easy to order. Sign up for meals for the following week by Friday before 9am to participate in this offering for your child. If you have any questions, please email shellie.gierach@glendale.k12.wi.us .
Updates from the North Shore Health Department on COVID-19
Recommendations for schools are based on the following metrics
COVID-19 Burden: The number of COVID-19 cases in a 14-day period computed as a rate per 100,000 population, which allows for comparison between communities.
a. Critical Case rate is greater than 350
b. High Case rate is greater than 100 but less than or equal to 350.
c. Moderately High Case rate is greater than 50, but less than or equal to 100.
d. Moderate Case rate is greater than 10, but less than or equal to 50.
e. Low Case rate is less than or equal to 10.
Percent Positivity: The percent of COVID-19 tests conducted during a time period that were resulted as positive. Multiple public health sources indicate that 5% or lower is ideal for permitting schools to meet in person.
COVID-19 Cases: The 14-day trend in percent positive COVID-19 test results. This metric aligns with the Burden of COVID Status but describes the trending of positive cases and not just the rate. This metric is available on the North Shore Health Department’s website and is provided as a weekly report to the North Shore area school districts.
Care: Percentage of hospitals not in crisis care and percent of hospital beds available. We know that hospitalization is a lagging indicator from cases, but an important metric that indicates the severity of disease within the community. This metric is available on the Milwaukee County COVID-19 Dashboard.
