A Message from Mrs. Booth
Dear Silver Springs Families,
Last Thursday we learned that our school buildings will be closed for the rest of the school year. We know and understand that this is what is absolutely necessary to keep each other safe. However, our hearts are heavy and we are devastated that we won't be able to see each and everyone of our students and families for a while.
April 6 - 10th is Spring Break. Teachers will be sending an Online Learning and Support plan for students to work on throughout the week. Please utilize it in a manner that best meets the needs of your students/family. Teachers will be busy working on Professional Development and getting started with the next phase of our Distance Learning Plan. Therefore, they may not be as easily accessible through email during this week. At this time, we are hoping to have the next phase of lessons ready for families on April 13th.
Please take some time over Spring Break to rest, relax and rejuvenate. Take care of yourselves and each other.
Remember, the District is committed to providing up to date information to all of our families as it becomes available. You can access information, updates, and FAQs via the Northville Public Schools website or at this link: https://www.northvilleschools.org/apps/pages/index.jsp?uREC_ID=350918&type=d&pREC_ID=1851982
Technology devices are available for loan to students who do not have access. Please complete this Technology Device Checkout Form to request the use of a device. You can reach our Technology Department Help Desk at 248-344-3680 Monday - Friday from 8am-4pm.
Stay safe and be well!

April 3, 2020 Message from the Superintendent
Dear Northville Public Schools Families, Staff and Community,
Yesterday, Governor Whitmer issued Executive Order 2020-35 (COVID-19), a comprehensive order that effectively closes all K-12 Michigan schools for the remainder of the 2019-20 school year as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. While this is a necessary step to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 and protect the health and safety of our community, we know that it is a heartbreaking loss for our students, our families and our staff, and particularly for our seniors, who looked forward to the many traditions and celebrations associated with graduation. While there are still many more questions than there are answers at this point in time, please know that we are committed to working together with our students, our families and our staff to acknowledge our grief, support one another, and figure out ways to redefine, reschedule and/or celebrate milestones in different ways.
Northville Public Schools has been developing our plan to shift from our current weekly Home Learning Support framework to a Distance Learning Instruction model, in anticipation of an extended school closure. The NPS Board of Education, at its 3/31/20 meeting, voted unanimously in favor of directing administration to “develop and implement a distance learning instruction plan by April 13, 2020, including taking those steps necessary to ensure appropriate and equitable distance learning for all students.”
We are in the process of further developing our Distance Learning Instruction plan for an April 13th launch, taking into account stakeholder feedback received over the past few weeks, and the input of our instructional staff. We are also reviewing the directives outlined in today’s Executive Order, which includes a requirement to submit a district Continuity of Learning – COVID -19 Response Plan to the Intermediate School District for approval prior to implementation. The template for this requirement will be available from the Michigan Department of Education on April 3, 2020, and can be submitted for approval beginning on April 8, 2020, with implementation required by April 28, 2020. Barring any delay in plan approval, Northville Public Schools will implement our Distance Learning Instruction plan on April 13, 2020.
Families can anticipate receiving a Weekly Home Learning Support plan for the week of April 6-10, 2020, our scheduled Spring Break, and are encouraged to utilize it in a manner that best meets the needs of their students/family. Please note that teachers will be preparing for the launch of our Distance Learning Instruction Plan, and therefore will not be scheduling check-ins or meeting with students over Spring Break.
Please read the attached letter for more detailed information.
Thank you for your patience and support as we continue to navigate unprecedented times, significant change and uncertainty in a few short weeks. Despite the challenges, I am heartened by the ways in which our students, our staff, and our families have already come together to support one another – and know that new learning most often comes in overcoming adversity and finding ways around barriers.
Thank you for your partnership as we work together with our students, staff, families and community to promote the safety, health and well-being of all.
Take care and be well,
Mary K. Gallagher
Superintendent

Silver Springs Playground is Closed
In accordance with the Governor’s Stay Safe. Stay Home. Executive Order, and by Order of the Oakland County Health Division, Northville Public Schools has closed all of our school playgrounds and fields, including ALL play structures. Student safety and well being is at the forefront of all we do for our students both at Silver Springs and across Northville Public Schools. We are asking you to do everything you can to slow the spread. We appreciate your help in keeping each other safe and healthy.

Medical Mask Help Project
Dear School and Community Members,
Thank you so much for your talent and initiative in helping to create mask covers and face shields! We are so grateful for each person who has contributed materials, cut fabric, sewed, or created. We appreciate your help. The need is great.
We have some requests for mask covers that have a pocket to accept a filter. The video below demonstrates an easy modification to the pleated mask cover shared last week. Please see the video. We would appreciate having these mask covers as well.
Please do not take mask covers or face shields from the boxes to deliver personally to medical facilities. Not every facility is accepting these. The mask covers will be sent to facilities that are accepting them. They are committed to the locations where they will be used.
Sewing questions may be directed to Denise Bryan <bryande@northvilleschools.org>
Questions about medical needs or facilities accepting mask covers and face shields may be directed to: Vidooshi, vidooshi.g.maru@gmail.com, Anita: sinhalogan@gmail.com, or Bindya: pabindya@gmail.com.
Please put your contributions in a baggie with your name and email inside. We want to be sure to thank contributors appropriately. Please wipe down the baggie before putting it in the collection box.
Collection boxes are located outside each NPS elementary school: Amerman, Moraine, Ridge Wood, Silver Springs, Thornton Creek, and Winchester, as well as at Old Village School at the north end of the building and will be collected daily.
Thank you again for your support during these difficult times. Please feel free to share this information.
